fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm back from vacation and finally had a chance to listen to Vampire Surprise. Great song! In my opinion, it deserved to win first prize. Welcome Veronique!
The second place winners (and Spookster's close runners-up) were also deserved -- all well-produced recordings of good full length songs.
I was pleased to see my Halloweenie right in the middle of the pack. It is the first song I have written from scratch in 14 years (not counting my more recent java and C++ programs that generate midi files using pseudo-random number generators, but that's another topic). Thanks to The Mad Music Archive community for getting me off my butt and creating new music again. Look for more in the near future.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Awesome idea! I'll be tuned in.
--- Haul-E-Weird Hey, yeah! Why not make that an annual tradition around here? Don't you think this place needs a theme song, a sort of an auditory counterpart to the logo?
It's a thought, but it would be fun. (Like any of us needs an excuse to make fun songs...)
--- artpaul What a great idea for a song contest ?
--- spookster I too like that idea what a fun song that could be.
Haul-E-Weird I am actually drafting some new lyrics about this specific music community, and I'll share it with y'all when it's completed.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Oh Boy! Writing a song about the mad music archive? Can't wait to hear that!! Edwin1
--- Haul-E-Weird Awwwwwwwwwwwww...Gosh, Tim, that's sweet of you to say. The fan boys may stop by for the face and the frame, but let's hope that they find the music to be of merit as well. That's what it's really about for me.
I mean why else would I be posting to the Mad Music Archive forum on Halloween night, instead of being out partying...? Yes, it's true, I am "Fine and Nerdy", but no I am not going to write that parody. Don't think I could top what Al did with "White and Nerdy", and I see no reason even to try.
I am actually drafting some new lyrics about this specific music community, and I'll share it with y'all when it's completed.
~V~
--- Tim P. Ryan With a fantastic face and a fine frame, it's sure to inspire those drooling fanboy's to join us and vote. But the important part is a bunch more from California have joined us in the past day, and will hopefully stay to find out about other Mad Music.
-Tim
--- Haul-E-Weird As for the voting pattern, I don't know what to tell you, other than that I had some loyal last minute voters, which is nice to know.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I second the part about everyone being weiners, er, Hollow Weenies, er, winners.
:-)
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I promise not to embarrass you in public too much
--- Dave AuJus A big THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the song contest. Thank you for entertaining us with your demented Halloween song(s). You are all winners in my book.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d The page is located here - www.themadmusicarchive.com/halloween-contest.aspx?cmd=results
--- Haul-E-Weird I fear that I am at times terminally blond, but where in the heck is there an actual page that names all the winners and in which order and number of votes??? I have no idea how many votes I even got. I've not been able to find any of that. When I go to the contest page at this url: www.themadmusicarchive.com/halloween-contest.aspx
all I see is the list of songs and the check boxes next to them and a heading that says voting is now closed. Please help!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Hmmmm.... When all this was conceived of, the goal wasn't to generate 'winners' but rather, lots of new holiday (Halloween and Xmas- my favorite) dementia. Somebody had recently cut off all his internet fans from it in the interest of...oh, let's not start that again... and we were in need of a new supply of it. The effort was successful. I, for one, am content....

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Spookster,
Thanks for your well-wishes. As for the voting pattern, I don't know what to tell you, other than that I had some loyal last minute voters, which is nice to know.
I am pleased that you are not going to roll over in your grave about this. Who knows? We might even end up doing a collaboration at some point, since I don't read or write music or play an instrument, except for air kazoo.
I am mainly a lyricist and singer, (although I am a bit of a "hummer" as well) so I pretty much work in tandem with others- composers and musicians, to complement my skill sets.
I've even done co-writing with people I've never met, via phone and email, so you never know...
Anyway, Happy Halloween to you too, O fellow comrade in mad music!
:-)=
--- spookster First let me say Haul-E-Weird your song was wonderful definitely had the Halloween feel it was great!! What surprised me was that between 4 am and 2pm eleven votes were cast exclusively for your song not one other artist received one of all of those votes. Now I would like to lie this to rest in a deep dark grave in the sprit of Halloween and congratulate you on your win and hopefully we can be friends my fellow dark soul.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Tim,
Thanks much for your well-wishes. I will check out The Fump as well.
~V~
--- Tim P. Ryan Congratulations on the Halloween song win. Now we need to inform you about The Fump and it's Sideshow where you can let folks listen/download a song from you site without the web-page explosion I find on myspace. It's yet another community for musicians, particularly funny musicians.
-Tim
--- Haul-E-Weird Well, no one was more surprised than me that my song ended up in this contest at all! ... Best,

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I was a little disapointed that my other version of Night Mare which was the remix with Spookster & The Scaremenots wasn't played too but otherwise I feel the voting was very fair and I really enjoyed the fact I got played the first time.
But if you like you can vote for any of my songs to be on The Mad Music top 20 at www.dt20.dfsxradio.com
Except for Night Mare (The Remix)
I also suggest everyone that didn't summit their song to David Tanny at dfsx@dfsxradio.com so you have another chance.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Sick Puppy:
I guess being a dark horse and coming out of left field is a double-edged sword. Some love you and others, well, don't. But again, I make music because I am just not suited for any real or useful employment.
;-)
BTW, the contest aside, I am thrilled to have stumbled into this wonderful online community where people really seem to care about music and individuality. Wish it was more like this on the other websites I belong to, such as MySpace.
So, I promise you that I will do my best to live up to my winning, so that you know that I too care about mad music, and so that you realize that I am in this for the long haul.
Thank you again and Happy Halloween everyone!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Spookster:
Well, no one was more surprised than me that my song ended up in this contest at all! I submitted to Edwin1 for airplay consideration on his live365.com station- Comedy Old & New, about a week ago.
Then out of the blue, two days ago, he said that Vampire Surprise had really grown (groan!) on him and that he wanted to submit it to the Mad Music Archive Halloween Song Contest, so I said ok.
Then I sent out bulletins and emails to friends asking them to please come over to Mad Music and vote for me. Each one of them had to register as a member of this site before they could vote in the contest, so it served as excellent publicity to make previously unaware folks aware of this awesome community for starters.
For another, it gave every one else's music in the contest more exposure too, with more people coming in to listen to the entries. If you truly feel that this makes me an unfair person in some way, then I am sorry that you feel this way.
However, just so you know, I am a professional musician, meaning I do this full time and have not had to depend on a day job for 5 or so years now (fingers crossed). I did not see rules posted that this contest was open only to non-pro's or people who have been long term members here.
I personally believe that the point of making any kind of music is to please oneself, and if others happen to like it too, then great! So in that regard, everyone who entered something in this contest is a total winner in my book, because each one of them is obviously creative and doing something they love- making cool, mad music!
I hope that you have a great Halloween, and keep doing what you're doing. You are an inspiration to us all!
Best,
~V~

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Naturally I was also surprised to see the sudden shift... But that winning song was very well done. I knew when I heard it that the competition was going to be fierce. I would love to congratulate Veronique Chevalier on a job well done.... but be warned, I won't be such a pushover at Christmas.
BTW.... I was also keeping an eye on you as well, Spookster.
--- spookster I am very happy with our voting results from the contest but I must say I feel like there was some unfair play in the voting. In my mind Jake and Bob should have won. Just my opinion.

--- Haul-E-Weird Ghoultide Greetings All!
I am honored that my song Vampire Surprise has been added to the contest, so I am here to campaign on my own behalf.
I am always creating new material, so go right ahead and have as many contests as you wish, even Ground Hog's Day, and I am sure I could come up with something.
Best of luck to all my fellow contestants.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Christmas song contest sounds like a great idea.... and I have an idea that I've been procrastinating over for a couple years now. Perhaps now I'll actually get it done.
Demented Valentines sounds like a great idea too.....
--- Captain Wayne Nice idea - what does everybody think about a Christmas Song contest?

Also I like the Christmas song contest because I already have one I just recorded.

--- Captain Wayne There is another late-breaking entry on the list now:
Veronique Chevalier - Vampire Surprise
Be sure to check it out and update your votes if you like it!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Great idea for the Christmas song contest, Wayne. And if it's allright, I'll record my entry tonight, if it's not too late. Expect an e-mail from either me or a helper of mine tomorrow before the voting deadline.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d A Christmas Song contest would be great! I might even have time to throw something together. : )
--- Captain Wayne Nice idea - what does everybody think about a Christmas Song contest?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I like it. I like it muy much.
Or . . . I almost hesitate to suggest . . . A Thanksgiving Turkeys contest for the worst song you can think of. But the reason I hesitate to suggest this is that for a contest like this to work it has to be intentionally, hlariously bad. Portsmouth Sinfonia bad. Bill Shatner bad. Gloria Balsam bad, but on purpose and to effect. Think the Bulwer-Lytton Contest but with music.
--- Captain Wayne Nice idea - what does everybody think about a Christmas Song contest?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Nice idea - what does everybody think about a Christmas Song contest?
--- Sick Puppy Another great entry..... Way too much competition going on here.... Hope some of these result in new songs added even after Halloween. Perhaps another contest a little later, to keep the creative juices flowing.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Shmooly,
Great to have another Halloweenie song. Rather Beefheartian, in my opinion.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks for the vote guys! It would be a nice compliment to win, but I'm just out to have fun!
I actually had another song, where in the same vain as Spike Jones. "Yes, we have no bananas" different accented people were complaining about how Halloween "just ain't fun" because of all the various pranks that were being played on them, but I couldn't get the music and recording to sound presentable.
Aside from bologna sandwiches smothered in whip cream (three stooges), hot dogs filled with grape jelly are just about the only thing that will make me throw up! so I figured that old dead blues singers would love them!
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d That song was too good, Shmooly..... I can't afford to slip any further in the polls! (There's just too much good talent going on here.) I'm going to have to resort to some heavy campaigning!
Vote For Me!! (Rosedale Manor)
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d very cool song, Shmooly. I will probably vote sometime tomorrow, because I'm listening to Wayne's Halloween Part 2 of 3 show right now.

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Hey, real cool song, Shmooly! I never knew you can do that with a hot dog. You've got my vote.
So far it looks like Emo Kid for Halloween by Jake Waters is leading the way, which I voted for too.

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Nya hahahahaha!
|

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d As if you knew any other way to act.

|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Yep - listening to it now.
I just added it to the voting.
I like it - Very bluesie!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I owe HUGE APOLOGY to Spookster & The Scaremenots as I left their contest entries out of the show accidently. I will be playing them on Wednesday's show - and they are included in the voting so please consider them as well.

|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I wanted to join even though my music skills are not up to par with some of the people I am up against. So I am joining. Song has a lot of rough edges still and would love to improve it. Most of all the lack of a music track. I am letting it go to the world as is so it can be enjoyed. I will work on improving it when I can. Maybe it will be what I want it to be next year. But for this year this is what you get.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I've still away on vacation and have had limited opporunities to listen over the web, and therefore have not been able to hear every entry.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I hosted a house filk at my place this afternoon and tried my song out on the friends and filkers who attended. It went over very well. I'll be at the filk con (OVFF) in Ohio in two weeks, so I may even do it there too.
BTW..... Some of the other songs that have been posted are very good. Obviously there is some stiff competition out there.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm looking forward to listening to all y'all's new Halloween songs - as well as Jake's and Karl's and anyone else's I'm spacing off at the moment. I'm glad Wayne came up with this contest - yay for mo music!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm working on a song as well, loosely based on a true story.
Working full time doesn't grant a lot of opportunity to devote the time to musical creation that I would prefer to have. But it's usually while I'm at work that I get my best ideas. Unfortunately, they usually fade before I can do anything about them. Today, however, I remembered to keep my cell phone handy. (It has a built in audio recorder.) I hummed a few bars into it and with any luck I'll have something to work with next time I have some time free.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm glad I got mine done early because now you can vote for them to be in The Mad Music Top 20 at www.dfsxradio.com/9300.htm
but I'm thinking because I didn't really add alot of music to Night Mare(Night Mirror) that it is possible that it could be remixed for this contest and for Art Paul(The Remix Project) ?

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d So how many of you all are working on a Halloween song? We are working on a couple of ideas but have not compiled one yet.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I just sent Captain Wayne another one I called:
I Found a Costume
Please go listen to it at www.soundclick.com/artpaulschlosser
and tell me what you think ?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Yes! - the contest is non-exclusive.
--- artpaul Are we allowed to stream it somewhere while we are waiting for the contest ?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I have a question about this rule: --- Captain Wayne
It must be new - not previously released or distributed
Are we allowed to stream it somewhere while we are waiting for the contest ?
I put my song Night Mirror at www.soundclick.com/artpaulschlosser but I would be willing to take it down if I did the wrong thing.
I need to know because I have another one I wrote and I was thinking of putting it up there too ?
I like the idea of the Xmas contest and I was thinking how about an April Fools day contest or Easter or Mother's Day ?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I look forward to hearing some new Halloween tunes. These holiday tunes have always been my favorite kind of dementia. Maybe there could be a Xmas dementia contest also...

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Bragging rights?
Actually, we may be releasing the top ones on a CD. More on that after things are firmed up.
--- artpaul By the way what does the winner get ?

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d By the way what does the winner get ?
Not that I will win but I was just curious ?
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Actually, I did play "D" by Carrie Dahlby on Show #80.
I'm looking forward to your submission!
--- artpaul None of the Tributes so far have gotten played on Dr Demento or The Mad Music Hour.
I think if the right group came along I might work something out with them but I find with people like Bob Dylan,Weird Al,Bruce Springsteen,Ringo Star,Mic Jagger,Alice Cooper and alot of the Dr Demento society Celebrity's to quote the group Nuclear Bubble Wrap: I can't Sing.
But hey Wayne I'll summit something and if it isn't hearable let me know ?

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Having Someone else do my song was what Art Paul Schlosser{The Tribute !} www.cdbaby.com/cd/artpaul15 or at: www.themadmusicarchive.com/album_details.aspx?AlbumID=6386o
was about but unfortunately The Tribute CD didn't really get the exposure I thought it would. None of the Tributes so far have gotten played on Dr Demento or The Mad Music Hour.

So I think my ability to sing is really not the real problem.

Another suggestion for you Art Paul, you're a good writer - maybe you should write something, but have another group actually perform and record it. I know a number of song writers who never "made it" until they got a band to record their songs.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d No! By law you retain the original copyright to a piece no matter what. The CC License means people can freely share, reuse, and remix it legally though.
For more info on the Creative Commons License, click here: creativecommons.org/
--- Shmooly
Does the Creative Commons License mean that we are relinquishing any copyrights to the song?

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Yes, a scary song would count - but funny may be more popular. Take a look at the songs I've played on my Halloween shows - that may give you a good representation of what to shoot for. No, it doesn't have to have the word Halloween in it. The style is up to you - but one good thing is that they have to hear it to see if they want to vote for it - so at least it gets played!

I think I could come up with a funny comedy skit by electric phone message that I could send to wayne by E-mail attachment as an mp3 but is a comedy skit a song ?
Another problem is the word Halloween and my question is: Is a Scary song a Halloween song ?
Does the word Halloween have to be mentioned in the song ?

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Wayne, this is such a fun idea!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm not sure I will be able to enter it because of a couple of the rules:
It has to be a halloween song.
I think I could come up with a funny comedy skit by electric phone message that I could send to wayne by E-mail attachment as an mp3 but is a comedy skit a song ?
(I already posted 3 of these at www.soundclick.com/artpaulschlosser and though it's not about Halloween I think you might like Dead Fish Deorderent)
Another problem is the word Halloween and my question is: Is a Scary song a Halloween song ?
Does the word Halloween have to be mentioned in the song ?
Then the word it must be new well that means if I sent Scary Techno song# 5006 the remix it wouldn't qualify because it was already released once.
So we'll see if I can get one in or not ?
Maybe I'll work on a rap number. --- thesuspence I predict that the first entry will be released by Art Paul Schlosser.
