Topic: Mad Music Show #223 - Xmas IV: All You Need Is Elves...& 3 Million Asian Slave Children

Started by: Stavro Arrgolus

This one quickly became a favorite of mine as it's a Xmas song that can be played when it's not Xmas...like now. I added it to the final segment weeks ago when I knew the show wasn't going to happen during the holidays.

Stavro, since the next show you are working on is the final Christmas show you might want to play Let's all pretend it's Christmas by Dogs Must Be Carried.

Stavro Arrgolus:

I temporarily won the war against winter, but I always forget what a toll it takes on me. I had to go the the bank on Friday (or else). I had forgotten to earlier in the week. It was -5° with a -29° wind chill. It took 10 minutes to get the frozen car hood open and another 5 to jump start it and yet another 25 to unfreeze the gas line just to make it there. Hope nothing cracked & I go out again to find no gas in the car. Global warming my ass!

But it's done. I don't have to go out again for a while. However, I'm too exhausted to make a 2 hour show. It takes me days to recover from these things now.

I'm still leaning toward a New Year's podcast hosted by Celestra Arrgula. A few test recordings with Audacity (yes, I know there's a new version, but I'm not switching over until they work the bugs out of it) proved successful, so I've a new 'vampire character' option & a means to improve the others.

I really would like Wayne to send me an updated spreadsheet of podcastables so I can make better (& more frequent) podcasts, but...you know.

So, the plan is for a New Year podcast as soon as I feel up to it. As in not today, but soon...

(Celestra Arrgula is the last of the 5 vampire characters I made for The Sims 2 Nightlife expansion pack years ago. I had to call the character something and this was it. Yes, she's named after the pizza.

She's the only one of the 5 who never appeared on the show in one form or another. Unlike the other vampires (except for the Viscount), she has no problem with Stavro's questionable & occasionally blasphemous show style and will contentedly join in on the filth - but only on her own terms.)

Well, it is the last day of December. You might want to save this show for next Christmas or July 2018 and start working on the new Year's show.

On the third day of Christmas...

The great winter battle was waged. Old guy vs. sub-zero wind chills & blowing snow. It took all day, but I managed to rescue my battered police car from the grip of winter, got it to start without cracking the engine block, escaped the snowbound driveway, went down into the town, paid off my P.O. box that I've had for 45 years with only days to spare, retrieved the necessary pharmaceuticals in order to "not die" (a very important little detail), gassed up the car so the fuel lines wouldn't freeze and made it home with both car intact & no frostbite.

Victory is mine! February weather is defeated in December...at least for now.

All this probably sounds comical - if you're under 50. The rest of you know exactly what I mean. Assuming there are any you left here, of course.

The upshot of all this is that I can now focus on this show - when I'm no longer ludicrously tired. Though I wonder if anyone wants to hear it now. After all, I've made 2 full shows & a podcast. That's more than I did last year. Dave made a show also.

4 shows...that was the goal & we managed it. Maybe I should save this one for Xmas in July. OR I could make another Xmas podcast and let Celestra host it - the one vampire who hasn't hosted a show yet.

Perhaps I should contemplate this when I'm not so tired.

Show 4's assembly & mp3 collecting was completed some time ago. It's just a matter of finalizing the script (I never seem to be satisfied with it) & recording the episode.

Meatspace is interfering again. There are things I need to get out & do this week or else. A white Xmas means I have to extricate the car from the snow & escape the driveway. Easy when you're 40, but over 70 -  a below zero wind chill means potential heart attacks & icy death. Actually getting the car to start is another issue entirely.

This final Xmas show will be recorded when it can be & posted one segment at a time. Just like always.

I'm Dressing Up Like Santa (When I Get Out On Parole)

Request noted and added to my show.

Thanks,

Actually, that song is on a playlist for TMMS this year...just not mine. Dave is making show 3 and sent me his playlist so nothing would be copied. I saw that it's scheduled for show 3 (it fits his theme) on or around the 18th. He can call it a request from you when the time comes if he sees this - and the show's not made already.

e8 correctly noticed that I'm in the habit of removing the "Request songs for" from the thread title when a playlist is finished. Show 1 is long since complete & show 4 soon will be. Show 2 is the one with the half hour requests segment, so I'm letting that sit until all the requests are in.

You can request more than one, of course, and I can play that.

If you are still taking requests, hows about

I'm Dressing Up Like Santa (When I Get Out On Parole)

If requests are done, well then shame on me for not checking the forums sooner.

Time for some revision. I'm feeling better, so Xmas 2 is back on again. This requires another adjustment in the segment lists.

As seen below, Seg 3 will be called "Don We Now Our Gay Apparel...Not That there's Anything Wrong With That".

Seg 4 will feature the annual 'End of Xmas' sequence with more classics starting it off first.

I have roughly 30 requests floating around in my head... I'll cut that list down to a couple

Could I hear -

&

I Want The South To Win The War For Christmas  by Spike Jones f/ Phil Phillips

Welll... If all you need is elves then you certainly don't need kittens! So howabout Nan's Drowning Kittens For Christmas by Snooks???

Stavro Arrgolus:

This show will have a request segment. There's a backlog of Xmas requests & it's long past time I got to them.

Since Hanukkah begins around the time of this show's posting (12/11), there will be at least one segment for that in this episode.

And I know "All You Need IS Elves" is bad grammar. The title is a reference to the Bob Rivers parody of the same name.

An effort will be made to make this show SFW. How successful it will be is up in the air right now.

Hey Stavro, how about:

Tree's On Fire - Cledus T Judd

Thanks

One segment for Hanukkah is probably enough.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Show 2 segments:

Seg. 1: Xmas Requests

All requests all segment long.

Seg 2: Jesus Christ is in Heaven Now

Xmas songs that mention you-know-who by name.

Seg 3: Don We Now Our Gay Apparel...Not That There's Anything Wrong With That

And it's just what you think it's about.

Seg 4: Christmas is Over. Don't Worry; You'll Be Done Paying For It In June

Our annual end of Xmas segment. But we'll have more classics first.

Crap. I was concerned that long title wouldn't fit. I must have subconsciously left it out. If you make one of these shows, there is a finite number of characters you can add - presumably so no jackoff can add a whole book to the title and crash the site somehow. My titles may be long sometimes, but at least they're concise.

Yes, it would be nice to have a bit more room there - what with the HTML to add that makes the number red or green and the mandatory opening - let alone the title itself.

All things considered, I'd rather have Wayne fix some of the forums. Some have their post orders backwards (you've seen it) The latest post is supposed to be on top. On many, it no longer is. Worse, when you save a post, it doesn't appear. You have to navigate away and return to the page to see it. This little detail has confused many - including me when it became a bug from last year's upgrade.

Then there's the auto-center mode the input box is in. That's just an annoyance and doesn't affect the post itself. It would be ok to leave that if necessary, but if the other stuff is being fixed...

And don't get me started on the album edit page. But fixes for members ease of use comes first. And yes, I typed this out so I'd remember it when an opportune moment for fixing arrived. I could point to it or copy & paste it.

But first, I'll see if there's room to add to this show title. There, done.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Apparently, I had quite of bit of pent up Xmas in me, so that first show got themed out rather quickly. Also, too many songs didn't fit the shows four segment themes. Despite the show title, this show will be less cynical and bawdy than the first with more classic & requests. And if you believe that, I've got some real estate in Florida to sell y...oh, you get the idea.
