'Body organs' eh, he asked him knowingly. MMS-158, the "Organ Grinder" show is going to be a good one as well, but I think it's been done before at some point.

I'm right here, but I'm listed as offline again. Buggy, buggy...

I see there's some interest in this show again.

This show will likely become MMS-159. It will follow the 'hygiene', 'tribute' and 'body organs' shows. Since there will be no shows in late April, this will air sometime in May...I hope. Maybe you want to hear it sooner?

The show concept is tricky and Wayne will really have to 'sell it' if it's going to work. I currently put the songs together and add a paragraph or two to the script at the very most. This one may require that I write every word. It's going to be interesting...

Rick Mercer Report on CBC has a bunch of fake ads. Some I don't understand, but I think some Canadians would laugh there ass off at them. At lest RMR would want.

It sounds interesting to have a mystery show or segment.

That's true. To head this problem off a bit, I'd explain in the 'show facts' below the playlist what was going on and I would mention in the show's thread when the playlist was finally posted.

With a minimum of preparation, we could have the occasional unpredictable show.

...Just saw it now. To answer Tim's question, this wouldn't be a 2 hour show of fake commercials and nothing else. That would be rather dull. I have something more sinister planned.

peterpuck9:

It's an idea but I know that some people decide whether to listen to the show based on the playlist. So these people may wait the two weeks or they might forget about it and not return. That's the risk.

jmanforever:

Here's a thought; post the show first, with a message that says "Playlist available soon"... that way, everyone can be surprised by what's in the show, then the list can be put up for archive purposes a week or two later.

Maybe we should do this with all the shows.

The problem was, since the playlist is posted and you can follow it as you listen to a new show, everyone knows what's next and you can't get creative and do unexpected things.

SNL have done a lot of commercial parodies. However, most would have to be picked off of DVD soundtracks.
George Carlin has done fake ads within his Wonderful WINO bits (and probably within his game show bits).

I wonder how this would play for a two hour show, as opposed to using the one you find being put into other shows.

Yes, those sound good. Keep 'em coming.

I'm going to give it a shot every now and again. I've got time. For now.

Going to bend the format just a bit and see what happens. And if it's crap, well, at least the attempt was made. We did something interesting in the dead of winter. Can't be bad.

How about:

"Acapulco Gold Filters" from Cheech and Chong

And to pay tribute to the King of Adverts, the late Billy Mays,

"Ode to a Pitchman" from Random Task Collective (RTC) (The site members should check these kids out)

UPDATE: Maybe you can't check these kids out. They must have been signed to a major label, because all of their old free download links seem to be broken.

Another one I just thought of, although it is Christmas related, it is a fake commercial:

Manger 6 - Bob Rivers. (Spoof on Motel 6)

John Mammoseur has/had a lot of these. I think a lot where movie mashups, like Benji vs. Preditor.

Of course, a real commercial I like is Stan Freebergs one on using the imagination on radio.

National Lampoon - Those Fabulous Sixties
Weird Al Yankovic - Spatula City

An upcoming show I'm working on will have fake commercials as part of its working concept - if I can locate enough of them. "Fake Commercial Concept" won't be the title of the episode, of course.

How many fake commercials can you think of?

I always blank on songs and titles after coming up with show ideas and need to be reminded of the good ones. It's inconvenient as all hell. This absent-mindedness comes firmly and sarcastically under the category "Things To Look Forward To When You Get Older." It's right up there with uncontrollable farting and anal fissures. (grumble...)
