Too bad... It would have been good on XM.

Okay... I'll get right to it. I have enough material set aside from before that has never been played... most not even listed in the database. I notice since I made the list that one song has since been played... but I can make adjustments.

Captain Wayne:

Tim and I did approach XM Radio after the Doctor left them in 2005. I sent them a demo CD but never heard a reply.

I'd love for you to host a show, feel free to work one up!

My vote is for a regular 2 hour show once a month. Captain Wayne willing of course. :-)

My thoughts have already been mostly expressed. I actually like both shows to continue, but if given a choice, I'd stick with the format of the original Mad Music Show. Most of the other shows I listen to seem to focus on current trends, so the original show's format that allows older material works best for a wider variety.

I'm also in favour of having guest hosts take the show more often. I've even had some ideas for doing a show myself, but set them aside when the show went dormant. I'd be glad, however, to go back to them.

I tried my Android devices... Yup... Flash 9.0 needed.

Has anybody considered marketing the show to a satelite radio station? Seems to me comedy is widly accepted there, although most of what I've found is stand-up. A drawback, I guess, would be the time needed to produce a regular show.

I really miss this show on a regular basis, but Capt needs his life too. If he is up to a monthly show that would be great! I can wait a month. I was drawn to this site back in 06 when I was new to podcasting and missing Dr. D over in the bay.

As for the smartphone idea, I was having trouble using winamp on my Thunderbolt. I had to use the site player and stream through the website. Google Listen is far better, but bypasses the site which doesn't help generate traffic.

As for co-ops with others, I think the FUMP and Devo are great if they wish to work with you. In this drowning age of information, it's getting hard to gain attention and having a guild to bring in people is needed.

Whatever Wayne decides, thank you guys for your hard work and passion for the entertainment of others!

So...it's about to vanish for another year. It's time something was done about it, so I'll ask -

Do you want The Mad Music Show to continue and if so, do you want a full streaming 2 hours or a 30 minute podcast of CC friendly things?

Here's your opportunity to convince him to continue with the show...

That is why other shows are also available. A guest host here or there would work - but it's not the MMS without The Captain. I think that having someone put together the show is a great help (thanks Stavro - I think you are a good source for that) so that all doesn't have to be done in addition to recording the show.

What if some of the people could do the honors of hosting the MMS? Send them the scripts, and have them record the announcements, then send them through mega upload or something. Someone else could put the announcements and the songs together and upload them on the MMA.

It seems that when new MMShows are available, members are also listening to older shows, so I would hope The Captain could make shows on a monthly basis. Setting up an RSS notification system when a show is out could be a good monthly reminder to look at us.

I like the idea of a monthly show also. I would hope for extra shows for Halloween and Christmas.

That worked for about five minutes, then I got an error.

Tim P. Ryan:

At the bottom of any streamable playlist, you should see a link that let's you switch from the Flash player to a simple link suggesting WinAmp or other player. For me, now, it starts Media Player with an m3u file.
Let us know.

I tried it on my BlackBerry before the site revision. I was able to listen to a segment though it cut out a few times. It appears that listening now requires Flash 9.0 or greater which is not available on my phone.

I believe that a lot of the members found this site due to the dwindling support for Dr Demento Shows over the rest of the country via mainstream/broadcast radio or via a stations online stream. When The Captain started his own show it brought in a lot of people seeking to maintain that event type of programming that had a kind of regularity.
So once the regularity of the shows started to dwindle, so did the membership. I would love for there to be a weekly MMS, but that could put a strain on The Captain to choose this site over normal life. So if in order to keep some sort of regular programming vs sporadic, I would also be pleased with a once a month show. Same 2 hr format vs a short podcast.

While i like hearing new stuff, I also like the old stuff. so prefer the current format over a CC approach.

I'd participate more, but then I'd have to know a show was coming! The xmas shows surprised me. I didn't find them until last week! The monthly idea is good (and something I can stay current on!)

Even if the shows are not available via podcast, I'd like to see a RSS feed to remind me of new shows, and even upcoming shows so I can make requests.

I hardly listen to the radio now... I'm mostly listening to podcasts using Google Listen in the car via my droid. :) Would a steaming app satisfy ASCAP? What if it cached a show? I've been thinking of learning to write an Android app... this may make a good first project.

I also asked the same question a couple of times.

I think that getting this to work for smart phones would really generate a wider audience for all of the shows. I hope that it will be explored. Thanks.

Tim P. Ryan:

A question I have been asking, is how easy is it for someone to listen to the streams via Smart Phone? Is it a matter of navigation or do we need an app for that? If shows can be streamed to a wireless connected Smart Phone, like to a car, then it seems like we would be where 20 minute segments make sense.
Do some city commute systems offter connectivity?
Streaming should not mean having to be connected to your desktop.

Tim and I both did at some point. He seemed to approve of the notion...

It would be nice to have one on hand, just in case.

Should have mentioned this earlier - Found the playlist spreadsheet for the point at which the show stopped back in March. Apparently, the next show was about songs that haven't been played on the show up until that time, the next was an all-request show and the one after that had a theme no one has tried yet. No, not even Dr. D.

Has anyone here looked into trading a banner ad with The FuMP? That could be beneficial to both sites. I'd be happy to make a banner for this purpose.

Sounds like some serious coding would be in order for that, maybe, possibly. A good project for the winter and a good advertising point afterward. I wonder if he'd have the time.

"Oh tell me this thing I am not knowing and don't feed my god a peanut, come again."

I made a lot of noise to him about sending google ads out as well as taking them in - are they that expensive? - and trading banner ads with the other sites specializing in this genre. Just a small and relatively cheap effort in this area would drag in dozens of new visitors a day if not considerably more.

And a fine job of it at that! I think membership numbers, frequency of the shows (being missing for months at a time), content different from the other shows here, even social networking, have affected the number of regular listeners (and members) here. I believe more people called the toll-free number for the 4th Christmas show, once they knew about it.
Maybe it's just all about advertising the site better.

I've been doing this for more than a year. The playlists and scripts are all made beforehand so he need only record the shows. The problem seems to be in the reaction & participation, not in the production. I sense he wants more feedback.

Of course we would love to have a new MMS every week, but does He have the time to make a 2 hour show each week. I think NOT. The 30 minute podcast might be doable if a certain editor pre-produced the shows for Him.

It seems that some of the DJs here are trimming down their shows this coming year.
What if the captain could do just a new 1 hour show a month, i.e.
January - a New Years show
February - a Valentines show
March - an all request show
April - Fools & Taxes & Easter
etc. etc. etc.

jmho,
Dave

p.s. pdx-dj1 and I have 2 more Sci-Fi episodes planned for the MMS, but those might take a while longer for us to make.
