fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d i should've put a ;O) next to the "looks and sounds familiar" part. of course it's davy and "i'm gonna buy me a dog". much different than the version on the monkees debut album with davy and mickey goofing around during the song. tommy boyce and bobby hart were the composers for a lot of the monkees stuff including "...dog", and i guess this was one song they had lying around from before their monkees era. nice detective work coming up with the farmers daughter!

--- I B Emerson The IMDB says that William Windom was in a sitcom named "The Farmers Daughter" from 1963-1966, about a Congressman who hires a nanny for his children. That seems to match up with the YouTube clip. Isn't the song "Gonna By Me A Dog" which is also sung by The Monkees? It looks like Davy Jones in the clip.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0056755/
--- danny d this is from a 1965 sitcom, but i have no idea what it was called. the song is familiar, and so is the young man sitting in the closet. other than that i only recognize actor william windom in the clip (the poster of the clip on youtube gave little info). listen carefully and tell me if it sounds like the rolling stones' "fortune teller" during the verses. maybe it's just me...
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I did a little more digging and found that Davey Jones was in an episode of Farmers Daughter in its 3rd season (episode title: Moe Hill and the Mountains). and he did participate in singing "Gonna Buy Me A Dog".

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Although this video doesn't feature much of Calisto, which is the subject of [one of] Tom Smith's wonderful songs, some of us find it maddening, for similar reasons. The singer's voice is reminiscent of Carla Ulbrich.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d i'm going to try adding an extra wrinkle to this fabric of mad music: "i remember the first time i heard this song/saw this video....". call it the MMA version of "behind the music".
in the mid 1980s disneyland had a dance area called VIDEOPOLIS located in fantasyland. there was a huge dancefloor with railed areas overlooking it (about 6 feet above the dancers). there was a stage for live performances, but mostly they played music videos on the 20-30 t.v. monitors that were hanging all over the place. there was also a large screen on the stage as well as stacks of more montiors, multi colored spotlights, strobes, a disco ball, and a thundering sound system. it was quite a set up.
one summer night i was there waiting to meet a friend. it was the 80s like i said, i was in my mid 20s,and at disneyland.....of course i was a bit "mind altered". actually that night timothy leary would've been very pleased with me. well, at the peak of my adventure i was standing at one of the rails when the lights got very low so on the dancefloor all i could see were swirling bodies bathed in blue light from the spots. occasionally a face would appear within a strobe flash.
....and then this video started. i'd never heard the song before (or art of noise for that matter),and max headroom was pretty new to the u.s. i think he was only on coke ads here at the time, his u.s. series came later. even though by today's CGI animation standards max seems outdated, that night he was state-of-the-art(of noise). twenty years later i still remember it vividly. especially max's face on all those monitors wondering,"how do i get to sleep?",and the art of noise's mezmerizing rhythm of PARANOIMIA!
(by the way, is it just me ,or does it look like max is reading this?)
