fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I sent him that error hours ago along with the bit about iTunes not carrying the new show. He must have went to bed before reading it. Sleeping when you need to must be nice...
--- soweird Select the "Shows" button, then 2007, the last show on the list is "Movies" not "The 1970's".
Thanks Captain. Randy

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d BTW: This show *WILL* be posted tonight, Monday 9/10/07!
Probably around 10:00pm.
It will also be sent out using my Podcast provider so the downloads will be much faster than the last show (I got back into my account).

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'd like to change my request for Barnes & Barnes/ SuLu classic "High School Gym" to "I Gotta Get A Fake I.D." by Barnes & Barnes and Friends and submit "High School Gym" fot the school show. Thanks.
--- czwrefsteven I'd like to request the Barnes & Barnes/ SuLu classic "High School Gym" as well as Red Bovines "The Phatom Windbreaker". and "Window Shopping" by Damascus.
I'd also like to....... Second:"Up You Nose" by Gabe Kaplan "Waffle Wiffer" by Brad Stanfield "(It's Not Nice To Fool) Mother Nature" by Dan Murphy Third: "Dead Puppies" by Ogden Edsel "Black Superman (Muhammed Ali)" by Johney Walelin Forth: "Dead Skunk" by Louden Wainwright III

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d ?? Time to buy one of those Terebytle Cubes by Western Digital(?). Internal Raid system.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Oh God, I thought I was going to puke!
I looked over at the server and saw the dreaded BSOD! Then it wouldn't reboot!
$%&**%$)!!!!
After sweating bullets and working on it for an hour I finally got it back online. After what happened at home yesterday I thought I was really screwed.
Whew!
(I need a mental break - not a mental breakdown!)
Sorry that the sever was down for that hour - totally unavoidable!
FYI... I will be pulling the system tomorrow for a short while, I need an up-to-date image of the drive just in case.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I finally got the PC back to the point that the request line is up again!
(Jeez, it seems every software I need to use needs to be upgraded to be "Vista Compatible" - no chump change either!)
I have a meeting after work tomorrow, so Wednesday is the absolute earliest I'll get the show posted - probably more like Thursday since I'm leaving work early for a dentist appointment which will get me home earlier to boot.
Thanks for your patience!
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Take your time Cap'n.
It may be Labor Day but that doesn't mean that you have to (labor).
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Well, now I'm not sure when I'll get the show done.
I just got hit by what AVG calls the "W32/Viru" virus. This has rendered the PC unbootable (well, it boots, but then the virus keeps infecting every program I run). Anyway, I'm in the process of recovering the data (booted using Winternals Admin Pack 5 from CD). As soon as I get the data off I can move to my new Quad-Core machine (the one I'm typing on now). The problem there is it's a Vista Ultimate PC and I don't have everthing installed yet - nor do I know what can be installed under Vista.
This also means the request line is down (that runs on the PC).
I'll keep you posted!
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'm not going to get this show done until tomorrow afternoon - got called away at the last minute. I'll have it posted ASAP!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d You have a chance to hear him RIGHT NOW!!!
Two familiar disc jockeys from the rock 'n' roll era of WLS-AM (890) will be filling in as talk show hosts this weekend and next on the Citadel Broadcasting news/talk station.
From 6 to 8 p.m. this Saturday, it'll be onetime overnight jock Turi Ryder. From 6 to 8 p.m. the following Saturday, it'll be ex-WLS superstar John Records Landecker, who continues to host afternoons on oldies sister station WZZN-FM (94.7).
From Robert Feder's Sun-Times column on Sunday, August 23rd.
--- jmanforever Hey! I used to listen to John Records Landecker on "The BIG 89" WLS.
BOOGIE CHECK!!!
...would love to hear him again.
--- jdzack ...a look at the '70s wouldn't be complete without something about Watergate; my choice would be "Make a Date with Watergate" by John Records Landecker.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'd have to choose Mission Impeachable, but even a couple of the 30-45 second commercial spots would be good too... Send Money & Energy Crisises were good (of course I may not remember them the way they are on the album)...
--- Captain Wayne Halfbee,
I do have that album! I added it to the database Here.
Take a look at the playlist and let me know a favorite!
Wayne
P.S. I've only got up throuh "L" in adding my collection's albums to the database - It might not be listed yet, but I might have it!
--- HalfBee Obscure-O-Rama time... I used to have (and probably still do buried away somewhere) The National Lampoon - Missing Whitehouse Tapes album. I can only vaguely recall some of the things on the album. Since I don't think Wayne will find a copy...

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d "Put the Lime in the Coconut" by Harry Nilsson
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I'll second this.
Terri M.
--- Dino Flintstone Also how about a Brady Bunch song such as "When It's Time to Change You've Got to Rearrange" - the song Greg Brady wrote to accomodate Bobby's changing voice.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d How about something truely demented from the 70's - "Nixon's the One" Campaign song for Nixon
Also how about a Brady Bunch song such as "When It's Time to Change You've Got to Rearrange" - the song Greg Brady wrote to accomodate Bobby's changing voice.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d One of the things we looked forward to in the late 70's was the weekly broadcast of The Muppet Show. How about the theme song?
-Tim
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d As a tribute to the late Mike Reid how about his version of The Ugly Duckling (which I played in show #49)

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I had an email exchange with Brad a couple of years ago. I think he visited rec.music.dementia at that time. He might have even joined here at TMMA, but I see no evidence of that.
At the time he was trying to get ahold of Dr.D to get access to the original tapes he sent to doc all those years ago, probably without making a good back-up for himself. He was looking for: (quote) "Waffle Whiffer" "Gumball Wizard" "Back Seat Drivers" "Butane Boogie" "You're My Type" "Sanatarium" (not listed on your site) "Santa, Gimmie Some Zits" (not listed on your site) (end quote)
He has remained busy in the music biz: www.bradstanfieldmusic.com/
We wanted to get as much material as possible to put together a 30th anniversary CD. I would like to see that happen.
-Tim
--- danny d Brad Stanfield... it'd be nice to find out what brad is doing now,and why he chose to bow out of show biz (the demented side anyway).
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d --- djscott "Waffle Whiffer" was by Brad Stanfield-Brad had another song that was popular on "The Dr.Demento Show" in the 70's,"Gumball Wizard".
when he first started sending in songs to dr. d,brad quickly became the hot new artist on the show. dr. d was very enthused by him,and was certain he'd go on to be a big star. never happened. for some reason brad just kind of faded away after about a year and a half of popularity. he was obviously talented both as a writer and guitarist,so it's pretty weird how he just went away.......did i just say "weird" ??
not long after brad became a golden oldie on the demento show,a young college guy from up north started sending in his own songs. suddenly bologna, school cafeterias, and crowded buses were a sunday night staple.
i think we all know the rest.
it'd be nice to find out what brad is doing now,and why he chose to bow out of show biz (the demented side anyway).
another of his songs i like is "back seat driver". that and "waffle whiffer" showed early on that he was more than just a parody guy. his guitar playing on "gumball wizard" is pretty kick ass, too. especially the version done live on KMET.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Speaking of politics, there was a novelty song featuring the 1976 Presidential candidates (Ford, Reagan, Carter, Jerry Brown) that was on the radio about that time. It featured the candidates voices (at least impressionists versions) talking/singing to the tune of "A Boy Named Sue." At the end Johnny Cash finished the song. I have a scratchy hard to hear version of it and would sure like to hear it again, loud and clear.
Will --- fm123 Dickie Goodman did Watergate, or was it Watergrate? It's a Novelty/Break-In recording about the Watergate scandal. That would be another good request for the 1970's show.
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d How about... "You Can't Judge A Book By It's Hair" by The Credibility Gap. Haven't heard that one in quite a while. Also, I can't believe this thread has gone on this long without anyone suggesting a Martin Mull song. Damn, he practically defined novelty music for me in the 70's! Let me go a little obscure though, and suggest "They Never Met" and "Flexible".
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d well, if my suggestion doesn't make the all request show, it could still work here in a watergate set. "the nixorcist" by perfectly clear actually combines two 70s horrors: watergate and the possesion of young regan (later,in the 80s,that would become REAGAN.but that's a story for another decade).

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Obscure-O-Rama time... I used to have (and probably still do buried away somewhere) The National Lampoon - Missing Whitehouse Tapes album. I can only vaguely recall some of the things on the album. Since I don't think Wayne will find a copy, for a Watergate reference how about:
Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell and Dean by The Creep
--- jdzack ...a look at the '70s wouldn't be complete without something about Watergate

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks I B. Well, I guess that's information I'm missing due to being stuck living in the Midwestern USA while growing up. I wasn't buying LPs back then, only 45s. The music I knew & loved was whatever they were playing at the time on 89-WLS and 1520-KOMA. I just checked my 45 collection, and I don't have "Billy" by Paper Lace, but I do have a copy of it by Bo & Co.
EDIT: In my collection, I also found from Paper Lace; "The Night Chicago Died" on a 45, and "The Black-Eyed Boys" on a K-Tel compilation 8-Track called "Out Of Sight!"
--- I B Emerson Jman, It's on the same album as "The Night Chicago Died" which is still one of my favorites.
If you look up the "Paper Lace" album on Amazon.com and read the reviews, you'll see that the author of "Billy, Don't Be A Hero," Mitch Murray, says that Paper Lace had a hit with the song in England, first, then Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods covered it for the U.S.
--- jmanforever
billy don't be a hero by paper lace (or even worse bo donaldson and the heywoods!) >Jman - did Paper Lace even do that? I thought they did The Night Chicago Died.

|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d How about the very hard-to-find "Chick-A-Boom" by Ted Knight (from the album "Hi Guys"). Also, a look at the '70s wouldn't be complete without something about Watergate; my choice would be "Make a Date with Watergate" by John Records Landecker.
--- jmanforever ...then maybe "Chick a Boom" by Daddy Dewdrop...
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d That's right - Paper Lace did "Billy Don't Be a Hero". It reached the #96 position on the Top 100 of 1974. On their Greatest Hits album, it's the very first song.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d --- danny d
and how about a medley (because i don't think we could stand full versions) of some of the "serious" songs which are even more laughable now:
heartbeat it's a love beat by the de franco family >Jman - Yuk!
billy don't be a hero by paper lace (or even worse bo donaldson and the heywoods!) >Jman - did Paper Lace even do that? I thought they did The Night Chicago Died.
seasons in the sun by terry jacks. >Jman - This has to be one of the most depressing songs in history!
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night by the bay city rollers >Jman - I used to watch them on Saturday morning TV!
...and all the other songs your little sister used to drive you crazy! >Jman - Well, my little sister used to drive me crazy with: Da Doo Run Run by Shawn Cassidy Magic by Pilot Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang by Silver Beach Baby by First Class Philadelphia Freedom by Elton John Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck Shannon by Henry Gross and one of the most overplayed songs in our house: 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I started collecting records in the 60s, but the first demented disk (record) I bought in 1970 was probably "Gimme Dat Ding" by The Pipkins, then maybe "Chick a Boom" by Daddy Dewdrop, and "When You're Hot" by Jerry Reed in 71, and "My Ding A Ling" by Chuck Berry in 72. I still have them all... and yes, I also have The Streak.
Oh, and then there was "Junk Food Junkie" by Larry Groce, "Convoy" by CW McCall, "Short People" by Randy Newman.... I loved the 70s.
--- Sick Puppy The first demented disk I ever bought (back in the 70s) was The Streak, by Ray Stevens. That's what I'd like to hear!
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d As a teen of the 70s... I only have one thing to say...
FREEBIRD!!!!!!
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Ah - sweet Transexual - land of night - to sing and dance once more to your dark refrains. To take that step to the right... "let's do the time warp again" How about The Time Warp From the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d anyone who grew up as a teen in the 70s can identify with "Once you understand" by Think
and how about a medley (because i don't think we could stand full versions) of some of the "serious" songs which are even more laughable now:
heartbeat it's a love beat by the de franco family
billy don't be a hero by paper lace (or even worse bo donaldson and the heywoods!)
sorry about that!
seasons in the sun by terry jacks. the flip side of the 45,"put the bone in",is pretty funny.
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night by the bay city rollers
...and all the other songs your little sister used to drive you crazy!

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Your post reminded of some other fun '70's songs:
From Leon Russell's Carney album "(Queen of the) Roller Derby" and "If The Shoe Fits"
From Jimmy Buffet's Songs You Know By Heart album "Pencil Thin Mustache" and "Cheeseburger In Paradise"
And from Ry Cooder's Borderline album "The Girls From Texas" and "Crazy 'Bout An Automobile"
--- Tim P. Ryan Some songs that are 70's fun, but not punchline funny include Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown - Jim Croce or one with a bit more humor, Roller Derby Queen - Jim Croce Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet would also fit.
-Tim
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I know "Dead Skunk" is Louden Wainwright's "Stairway to Heaven", but could we hear something else he did from the 70's like "Hardy Boys at the Y" or "Rufus is a Tit Man"
--- peterpuck9 I third "Dead Skunk",
|
|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Seconded!

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I requested "Black Superman" (Muhammad Ali) by Johnny Wakelin for the one-hit-wonders show, but maybe Wayne doesn't have it in his collection. I have it if needed.
--- jmanforever

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I third "Dead Skunk", second "Black Superman" and add "The Soul Bowl" by Hudson and Landry. (Muhammad Ali reminded me of the Howard Cosell-like interview.)
--- jmanforever I'll second "Dead Skunk", and add "Black Superman" (Muhammad Ali) by Johnny Wakelin. (That would have worked for the one-hit-wonders show as well.)

These all I can remember atm. hehe

|
fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Existential Blues By Tom 'T Bone' Stankus, was not technically written in the 70s, but it is certainly about a lot of 70s concepts. Or at least it makes fun of them.
"She asked me her sign. I blink and answered 'Neon' I thought I'd blow her mined."
I'd also like to nominate:
Making Love in a Subaru by Damaskas (for My wife) You Got Your Baby Back by The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo Sister Mary Elephant by Cheech and Chong
I'm not sure its been long enough to laugh at songs which were not really meant to be funny at the time. Some of us remember the 70s with a slight pang of embarrassment. But if it has been long enough then may I suggest:
Shake your Booty By KC and the sunshine band Physical by Olivia Newton John Shake Your Groove Thing by Peaches and Herb Get Up and Boogie by Silver Connection.
And just for the record, I did NOT look these titles up by going through my old "Best of the 70s" albums. I mean, I don't even have any of those.
;)
