Is there anyone out there that is as fed up with "radio station formats" as I am? It isn't so bad on the internet, at least you can choose what you want.
In Montgomery, AL we have lousy radio stations. They are all slaves to the "corporate format", DJ's are not given any leeway on what they are allowed to play, even after midnight. I've called in tons of requests, only to be told, we can't play that! Why not? It's a Rolling Stones song and you are a classic rock station aren't you? ............What they mean is we are a Top 40 Classic Rock station. "We aren't allowed to play B sides or any tune that doesn't fall into our "format". What I am looking for and trying to set up on my own, is a radio station that plays what I like to listen too. All genres of music (as long as it is good, and I alone am the sole judge of what is good), snippets from films, lots of (what I call) Ear Cookies, comedy bits, and whatever else I felt like playing, NO RULES.
Dilemas: I don't like Rap although I like Tone Loc and Everlast.
I don't like "Christian Music" although Skillet is one of the hardest rocking bands I've heard lately.
I don't like Country but Johnny Cash is all right.
Binky Yutz Radio does it all, commercial free!!!

Commercial radio is good for something.... just can't place it at the moment... It'll come to me....

I wouldn't be caught dead with an iPod, but I do love my Creative Zen, although even that isn't without its problems. (Now watch this... they'll find me dead at the side of the road with an iPod in my pocket... just because I said it.)

News... and weather... I knew it would come to me... and... and... something else... I know it'll come to me...

Commercial Radio sucks. They only play what THEY want you to hear not what you really would like to hear. That's why Apple is getting rich selling us iPods.

Yes I own two or three myself. I like the "Creative Zen" better than the "iPod" because I have more control over how it plays back my song collection. We are our own DJ's now.

Yes, I am. . .and have been for a long time, I echo Max's statement but wish I was able to turn on a radio station and hear far more variety than what I hear.
