Due to high electricity bills, the following has to be implemented immediately.

My computer time is reduced to three hours a day.

Only the core projects for my website and shows will take priority (daily Dave's Radio Blog, podcasts, playlists for my shows, twittering, facebooking friends, visiting news and forums, etc.)

Mad Music Comedy Zone will be cut to 2-3 times a month.

David Tanny Show and Dave's Music Notes reduced to twice a week.

No more uploading individual songs for the MMA unless DJs request them.

No more uploading old Kahnman shows from my computer.

In short, all this uploading has added $$$$ to the electric bill.

Sorry. Gotta get the bills down.

Amendment to the changes.

Some allowance has been made. I can upload ONE classic Kahnman Comedy corner a week. That is all that is allowed by the owner of the building that houses davesfunstuff, dfsx, and the too popular Valerie Bertinelli page (2500 hits, thanks Oprah!)

Show 16 will be uploaded shortly. More later.

Let's do some math here:

Perhaps your current computer, including the monitor is drawing an average of 300 watts.

Lets say your utility company charges you 13 cents per kilowatt hour.

You were running your computer 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

300 watts = .3 kwh x 24 = 7.2 kwh per day x 0.13 = $0.936 x 7 = $6.552 per week. That comes out to $340.70 per year.

If you had an energy efficient computer that consumed half the power, you would save $170.35 per year, if you ran it 24/7.

Today, they sell gizmos that are in 'standby mode' when not in use and supposedly use almost as much power as when they're turned on. You have to yank the cords out of the wall to stop the energy drain.

My lawn tractor is a monster of consumption. Just 1 mow drains half the tank. I read somewhere those things pollute more than any other kind of vehicle because they're unregulated.

Old big honking big hulky 1991 floor standing PC (IBM PS/2) was said to use about 1 dollar a day of electricy, when set to run 24/7. My 2001 PC with the flat screen monitor, I expect to use a lot less, even with it being on for about 16 to 18 hours a day.
There must be other ways to save your half dollar a day. Maybe one less set of coins going into a vending machine a day. Maybe a mug of water to replace a mug of diet cola? When you get to the store, just park--don't go searching for the best spot--park were you park each time. that way less memory to use with here you put the car. A compact floresent in my living room lamp saves money as it is on about 6 hours in the evening. If you have an electric water heater, turn down the temp from 140 (enough hot water on demand for a family of 4) to 130 (enough hot water on demand for 2). That also works for a gas heater. Get out the vacumn, some rags and sponges and do a good cleaning to the back of fridge--better ventilation will cause it to work less.
Having the TV on for the hours the computer is now off is just a trade. Power off external drives when not in use.

Hi David,

Earlier this year, I've built a green PC for myself. It uses less than one half of the electricity the old one did. I was tired of the high electric bills, and decided to do this, since I cannot afford to go to solar and get off the grid.

I heard energy providers were seriously crooked out there, but 3 hours of computer time a day? What do they charge for the damn stuff? Do you have to give them your firstborn? Maybe a piece of skin from the back of the neck for ID purposes?

And 10 points to everyone who knew the neck skin thing was a Python reference.
