Congrats Val!
America! So great!
The only place in the world where a Hannuka song can win a Xmas contest.
I know, it was a holiday contest!, I know. Still, it's a wonderful thing.

Now, come to Shvanston an getcho prize woman!
Don't vorry it's kosher! The shluff'g'netzer Rebbe put his hecher on it!
Or vas that Shmoil d'moil!?!, I forget!
Hmm.

Everybody else, you were all wonderful!

(This entree is #50, one me'al h'teva, whatever that means)

Hi all and thanks for your kind words. Again, everyone who submitted something is a winner just for daring not to be mundane and mainstream. I second what Eric said about making 2008 a grrrrrrrrrrrrreat Mad Music year.

As word spreads about this wonderful community here, we will all benefit by having all our creations heard by more appreciative listeners.

And so in the spirit of inclusiveness, I wish you and your loved ones all a Happy Festivus, (and also thanks to Jerry Seinfeld for presenting us with a concept for making the holidays more one-size-fits-all).

Now please excuse me, as I have some serious re-gifting to attend to!

;-)

xox,

Congratulations to Veronique Chevalier for the win, and a big thank you to the Mad Music Archive for giving me a chance to get my songs heard by people who have an appreciation for novelty songs.
Also a big congratulations to all the other folks who entered the contest. I enjoyed hearing your songs, and will keep looking for your work online. (I just voted for TV's Kyle in the contest he mentioned below.)

I hope the MMA grows in the coming year. (By that I mean Mixed Martial Arts. Big Fan.) and I hope the Mad Music Archive grows and spreads like bacteria on a frat house carpet. You can't ask for more prosperity than that. If you're on Myspace, add me as a friend at www.myspace.com/erichainesmusic
I'm looking forward to hearing more from all of my new friends here at Mad Music Archive!
Merry Christmas, and God bless us, every one!

I just realized that the link to the Father Flog mp3 on the official contest page was dead -- didn't check it until now. (Update: It's fixed now) Considering this, and the short time the song was on the ballot, I'm very happy with the number of votes it got, and enjoyed listening to all the songs. You can still listen /download Father Flog here.

Good luck to all who entered... Sadly, although I had made an attempt at writing something for this contest, other commitments distracted me and I had to put the idea on hold. Perhaps I'll work on it over the next 11 months and release it for next year.

I don't know if our next contest (assuming we're going to continue this great new tradition) is going to be Valentines or Mad Music Theme, but I'm now focusing my attention on ideas for both those topics.

Good luck on the contest and Mery Christmas.

My entry is submitted . Definitely a demo recording, but at least the song got written. Until it gets added to the ballot, you can listen here

The song is called Father Flog; it's about the companion of Santa Claus, known in France as Le Père Fouettard, who whips the naughty little children on Christmas.

Well, I was getting ready to put a thousand Christmas lights up on the roof and have them blink to the sounds of demented music when I slipped and hit my head on the toilet and thats how I came up with the FLUX CRAPASS ITTER, But right before I awoke the Ribono Shel Olam appeared before me in a dream and said " remove your shoes from your hands, your not supposed to wear them that way" and then he told me to always eat cereal with root beer while wearing my dickie and sing about rudolf. And, well, you know the rest! Oh yeah, Eliyahu Hanavi blew the shofar and told me all about Hanukka!

L'chaim Tovim U L'Shalom!
(whatever that means)

Shmooly,

Congrats on going from not even knowing what Hanukkah was, to making a heehee-larious song about it in such a short amount of time.

Sounds as though Santa has tippled a few too many Mogan Davids in your composition. Haha!!!!!

Thanks, Karl. Yep, I play brass, some woodwinds, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and a few other instruments such as a cowbell and wooden flute that I whack with a stick. Songs are recorded in my living room, using Audacity, with a microphone and a short attention span. Anyone have recording equipment they recommend? I have a PreSonus Firepod on my wish list, and a better microphone.

I also sent another Christmas song in to Wayne, (bluegrass this time) which he said might be up tomorrow.

Eric

Are you a brass player as well? Great playing (or at least very convincing sampling - sounds real to me). Great arranging, too.

This is a Hanukkah song that I've had sitting around in my brain for over five years, and it's taken me all this time to finally find someone willing to record it for me.

Oh well, at least I'm well-prepared to get it aired on the radio next year. Unless the descendants of Abraham decide take out a hit on me, which they very well may, once they hear the song.

;-)

Here's the link to the Internet Archive page for your listening pleasure, till Cap'n Wayne gets the chance to upload it onto the contest page:

www.archive.org/details/BubbesHannahCathanukkat

If you like it, please come back and vote for it once the song is uploaded!

I'm a stand-up comedian as well, and stand-up comedy forums are, by and large, poisonous meatgrinders to destroy the weak. I've dug around the blogs and forums here, and it's it's refreshing to be part of a group that is supportive of the type of music I enjoy, tuned in to my sense of humor, and informed about the issues that surround the future success of comedy music.

I think some of my favorite ones in Captain Wayne's radio show this last week were the Hanukkah songs even though I'm Christian.

I think I like the diversity and hearing how others feel and that the holiday season isn't just Christmas.

I especially like the Happy Whatever your celebrating song.

Got it posted, Thanks Captain Wayne!
I can't get the MP3's in the contest to play for me. Any tips? You can also listen to my song Christmas 2010 at www.myspace.com/erichainesmusic

Captain Wayne emailed me with this fix:
...You need a music player that maps into your browser. Thebest free one I've found in WinAMP - you can get it free at www.WinAMP.com.You can also download them to your hard drive using the right-click and"Save As..."- then you can play it with Windows Media Player or equivalent.

Hope this helps someone else. The right click "Save as" option worked for me.

Yes we are!

Announced on the 11/24 "Numbers" show, we will be having a new song contest!

Same general rules as the Halloween contest:

  • The contest is open to anyone; amateur or professional

  • It must be a Christmas, Hanukkah or Winter Holiday song

  • It must be new - not previously released or distributed

  • It must be submitted by an author or performer of the piece (no "look what I found" entries)

  • The members of The Mad Music Archive will vote for the winners in December

  • All songs may be played on the show, but all will be streamable via the website

  • Must be covered by the Creative Commons License

  • Must be able to be played on the radio (please censor if necessary)

  • There is no limit on the number of items you can submit

  • The contest is non-exclusive; you can release it/stream it on MySpace, the FuMP/Sideshow, wherever you want, as long as it's been created since November 24, 2007
