Podcasters are trying to get their shows on the terrestrial stations by editing out the $325,000 words so that the programmers won't be scared to carry them on their stations. In the long run, it would be better for the genre of dementia to not go the route of gutter language that is the staple of alternative rock and hip hop (mainstream) genres.

Getting airplay because a bad word got editied out at least gives the artist publicity is better than no airplay because they didn't supply an edit that could be used on the radio or an engineer didn't care to do the work themselves to edit out the bad words.

If the people want to hear the song with the bad word in it, they can go to the artists's website and spend $10 on a CD to get the unedited version. That alone should stimulate some sales to the artist.

So when broadcasting over the radio,
there are certain words we must omit,
like @!%@#%, @^$$#@, and @#^&@#,
by gosh, we can't even say...
Shaving Cream,
be nice and clean,
shave everyday and you'll always look keen.

My comment was more general than your show, or any of the comedy music shows--sorry about that. I like your show, Dr D, Capt Wayne's, Manic Monday, Brobdingnagian Minute, The Fump, TheyNow, etc, etc, etc, all of whome filter, to one extent or another. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings--that wasn't my intent. I do find it ironic that family-oriented shows can't/don't stay the word that gets the family started, lol.
    Keep up the great work!

I am not tring to be like Doctor demento. I Just want to keep a clean show for my podcast listeners. I Dont mind Keeping the word Damn And Bitch because you hear them on the radio and TV all the time. It's Just the Main Swear words that I will Not alow on my show.

I agree, Dang.

Dr. Demento and Tyrone have both cut "offensive" syllables from my songs, which destroys the meter of a verse.

Tyrone and I have discussed the issue, and I think I've won him over.

I offered to bleep "Today Was A Very Good Day", as this allowed me to creatively cover the lyrics with harmonica notes that filled the space, rather than cutting it.

You'll see what I mean when you hear the song on Episode 4 of Tyrone's show.

Normally, I'd say censorship is far more profane than any profanity. In this case, I made an exception.

The beeps can be very distracting, and they often don't have the right number of syllables, and never rhyme. They effectively ruin the scansion.

Censorship, like charity, should begin at home; but, unlike charity, it should end there.

I remember the late Redd Foxx saying that there's only one reason why he says @#%@! and @^#$&. People do.

New KMCC: Today Was A Very *&!@#$ Day

I don't bleep my songs for just anybody, but Tyrone Kahn's running a family friendly podcast. In other words, he's a real prude.

However, for the sake of the children, I substituted a couple of harmonica notes for the common expletives *&!@#$ and +)&%!!? in Today Was A Very Good Day.

So now everbody's happy, except for fans of the common expletives *&!@#$ and +)&%!!?. I'm a big fan of those expletives, so I suppose that group includes me.

Catch the radio edit of my song in Episode Four of Kahn Man's Comedy Corner, which also features an exclusive live performance of Girlfriend by Henry Phillips.

Henry Phillips: Why Haven't I Heard From You?Tyrone recorded the song during Henry's 2002 performance at Genghis Cohen "in West Hollyweird. I had the song way before Bob and Tom and way before Dr. Demento got it," Tyrone said.

"It was a brand new song. Nobody had even heard of it. I asked Henry if I could play it on my show and he said yes!

"So, I had an exclusive, live version of Girlfriend. I really liked it and with that I smelled a hit. I knew it was gonna be a hit before it ever went on another show!"

Tyrone's podcast is a bit of a hit as well, with more than 625 downloads since its inception in September. It's also now available on the Mad Music Archive, and through iTunes.
