Considering the topic, waiting may prove to be a bit . . . painful.

Oh, I crack me up sometimes.

Well, I made it safely to San Antonio, TX!

But, a little late for finishing the show tonight. I'll have to post it tomorrow.

See you then!

Actually, according to Dr. Demento on his WB #2 show (web only show) he produced last year, this was done in the Toronto area around 1940 and has had many bootlegs produced on 78s in the late 40s, LPs in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and more recently on CDs. He also states this was originaly done as a Christmas gag gift for clients of a local recording studio.

Now that we know that you're talking about the Crepitation Contest (I requested it about a month ago on this topic thread).... Most reliable reports places its origin in the late 40s at the Toronto, Ontario Jarvis Street studios of the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). Sidney S. Brown (named in the context of the recording) was well known as a sports announcer on the CBC at that time. It is generally assumed that the recording was not meant for widespread distribution but was intended as an inside office joke. Somehow it got into the hands of somebody in the U.S. Navy, where it was taken around the world.

More info and another (unbleeped) recording at: www.vulgarwind.com/crep.html

--- Marcus Tee

And one Demento played only once back in 1975 called "The Great Contest". No one seems to know where this came from.
My brother tried to explain this to me once when I was a teenager but I never heard it until recently when I found it here.

It's kind of long so Wayne may want to excerpt it.

Thanks for all the requests!

I've pulled the songs and set the playlist, but I'm not 100% sure I'll have the show online tomorrow night or right at 10:00.

I'm flying to San Antonio, TX at 1:55pm for a training class there and given the time for the flight, time to to get to the hotel, checked-in, unpacked and set-up it's going to be close (if I'm not too jet-lagged).

I'll let you all know more tomorrow!

At least a portion of The Crepitation Contest by Sidney S. Brown has been played on 21st century shows, in addition to KMET shows in 1974, 1985 and 1986. The 5/4/1975 playing seems complete except for an appropriate "Shaving Cream" at the censor point. The alternative title is The Great Contest.

Sorry about that! I got my Bobs mixed up. The song I was referring was to was recorded by Bob Rivers. It is a parody of CCR's Bad Moon Rising. The link to Bob River's site is:

www.bobrivers.com/search/index.asp

Enter the word "bathroom" in the search box and it should take you to a page where you can hear the song.

Did Bob and Tom put out a song called Bathroom on the Right ?

Is there a place I can hear it somewhere ?

I'm concern because I have a song called On The Right and it was written to Bad Moon a Rising and I thought it was an original idea so I would like to compare mine to theres.

Do you know when they put theirs out ?

BTW check out mine if you like in the mp3 store here at The Mad Music Archive or maybe if you like you can request it on the Mad Music Show ?

Has anybody suggested "Rubber Duckie" by Jim Henson? It actually had some national airplay way back when...

Then there's "Singin' in the Bathtub" by any of a hundred artists, although R. Crumb does a nice listenable version of it.

The "WFMU-365 Days Project" featured a really offbeat institutional piece about a woman who reaches a near-rapturious state when (presumably) sitting on the toilet. She innocently describes it as a place where she can "dream and cream"...

(As the parent of a teen-age boy, there will be NO comment from ME on the subject!)

www.wfmu.org/365/2003/232.shtml

Pets go to the bathroom too. How about "The Ballad of Runt?", assuming you can locate a recording of it (I've been looking for 30 years!) The lyrics are here;

barb.velvet.com/anhumor/doggypoetry.html

Whatever playlist develops, I think a segment about purely excretory functions should be like a visit the "throne room" itself...limited to about 10-15 minutes. It's hard to maintain humor in the subject much longer than that.

I think the Mad Music Show would be great for playing on Pirate radio stations, especially the Bathroom Humor show.

Anyone know of any pirate radio stations in your area that would be interested in broadcasting this show?

I used to know a guy in Thousand Oaks, CA that had a 10 watt pirate station on the FM dial at 99.3 that covered the entire community with a pretty good signal. This was over 20 years ago. I once gave him a tape of demented music, and it was a big hit with his listeners.

I don't know if many people out there are willing to do this sort of thing these days with the massive fines the FCC will give you if you're caught.

I am not sure exactly where the law in Australia stands on what is broadcastable, but there are guidelines that seem to me to be hypocritical.
On radio and television, the f-word is dropped in irregular fashion and is not time dependent, that is family viewing time or off peak time.
Our popular comedy programs, mostly on our ABC network, (ABC is our Government funded station is supposed to be non commercial), are the biggest 'offenders' in the use of what is termed profanity, and seem to get away with it.
While other commercial stations are a little more staid, voluntarily deleting offensive material.
Community radio is a little different, with it's own set of standards set by the CBAA (Community broadcasting assoc of Australia), who's 'guidelines' are a bit tighter, but do allow for broadcasting of 'offensive' material if a warning is broadcast before hand.
As in, "the following may contain offensive content" or "the following has no entertainment value what so ever"

Myself, I listen to the context, not the content, is the offensive material being used in a way that is integral to the song or story, or is it just being used for the it's own sake, and make my decision to delete on that basis.
As the show is being broadcast out of family time, I can get away with a wider latitude than at other times.

Alex

Recently, we heard we were no longer broadcast on the Hastings, Nebraska station, so with no U.S. stations broadcasting the show now, only what isn't airable in Australia matters. The repression might not be as bad there. We can only hope.

Without the thought police in this hemisphere to answer to now, I think we can get in a real bowel unclogging bathroom humor show that would sink the Ty-D-Bol Man's rowboat and make your eyes burn from the stench. Fun sh*t.

Did anyone ever follow up on this? Just to throw a bit of confusion into the discussion, back when Madman Moskowitz was a going concern he had a show dedicated to "bathroom humor" and it went out on the air and everything.

Of course it wasn't all poop 'n' pee jokes -- it included songs about showers, bathtubs, outhouses and the like.

I think you're right. I'll study the FCC rules a bit on this, but I don't think that we could broadcast ANY type of descriptions of, or jokes about excremental activities, even if they were heavily edited.

I'm A Specialist -- Frank Crumit
The True Legend of Jesse James -- The New Society Band
The Little Brown Shack (Don't Let Them Tear That Little Brown Building Down) -- Billy Edd Wheeler
Seven Old Ladies Locked In A Lavatory -- Oscar Brand

And what the heck, I'll second-third-fourth-whateverth "Rubber Duckie" and "My Men's Room Date's A Senator"

If we can have My Men's Room Date's A Senator - Robert Lund even though it was just played on Sept 18 (MMS #93), we should also be able to have Constipation Blues - Screamin' Jay Hawkins, last played on Aug 26 (MMS #90).

Also, two by Donovan: "The Intergalactic Laxative" and "The Pee Song" -- the latter (written specially for children) has NEVER been played on Dr. Demento, The Mad Music Show, or any other show tracked on this site.

How much of a pee do you wee

Does it tiggle and splotch,

Looks like those guys mean 'bathroom' literally. I don't think there are nearly enough tunes about toilets...

We don't have to go all the way there. But it would be nice if on just 1 show he could try out my 'podcast only- single uncensored segment' idea. It might fit best on a 'bathroom humor' show. Much less work than separate 'casts & 'naughty bits', too. Fun sh...uh, crap.

Since it's looking more and more like this show will REALLY happen, it's time to contribute one nomination and one more inventory item from the Automatic Pilot catalog:

Hydrophobia / Bobbing for Apples from Live On Broadway is about a club in San Francsico during the 1980's where guys did #1 together. Containing no individual "expletive" words, it would be suitable for this particular MMS. It has been played on DFSXRadio.com on New Strokes and I Still get Demented, was in general rotation for several weeks, and is still on the Dementia Top 20 ballot although it has not made DT20 (yet). The complete mp3 is at www.automaticpilot.org/mp3s/broadway/ap_ob02_bobbing.mp3 Note: The lyrics of the studio version from Back From The Dead have been "toned down" to where it's just a good ol' beer drinkin' song.

Rimmin' at the Baths is about #2; specifically diarrhea caused by amoebas caught during unsafe sex. This song, from the original 1984 production of The AIDS Show, is too nasty for most broadcasts and podcasts, even though the nastiest individual words are in the title, and the synonym for donkey. The complete mp3 is at www.automaticpilot.org/mp3s/aids/ap_as1_rimmin.mp3
