Got an idea for a new show?

Only Wayne can make that happen since a bit of programming is required. And it's his site. An important detail there. Tell him your idea & maybe send him a demo (a few minutes - not required, but helpful) & he can decide.

Yes, I gathered that. I do check on everything that goes on here as I've done for 12 years - whether I appear to be doing so or not. I just don't react to everything. As I did for Darren's show, I'll take down Ben's show article from the homepage after his final show is posted.

The only reason I'm reacting to this is to remind the remaining shows that they don't even have homepage articles. Since visitors often see the homepage first, it remains a golden opportunity to promote their shows.

Since this is Anthony's show thread, I can remind him of the opportunity first. He could write a paragraph about his show & whatever show features that he wants to promote and I'll add it to the homepage along with any show logo he wants to add.

Stavro, Ben is ending Wackiness on the Rise for real this time. So you don't have to worry about him putting up BGM music on his playlist.

Stavro Arrgolus:

If your friends made the track, you have their permission and the track isn't released, then it need not be credited. The point of the system was always to keep the lawyers at bay. Part of doing that is showing that we're making the effort to credit every artist for everything, including bgm.

The rule of thumb isn't complex. If you use a released track as bgm that you think there's any chance in hell a search bot will locate and report it to its litigious masters, then credit that track. That's what both Dave & I do. ...In case anyone forgot, you credit bgm by putting "BG" in the column instead of LH or LI. The track then appears in the completed playlist in purple italic.

If you can't remember, you can't remember. It's ok to let that go if you can't find info on it. Just showing we're crediting the bgm is what's important. We already have permission to use it since the site is a member of ASCAP, BMI & SESAC, but lawyers will seize any opportunity to screw you over, so it's best to be prepared.

FYI - Kevin MacLeod's music is (CC3). Mostly free to use but he wants CC Attribution on most of it. So it wouldn't hurt to list him for bgm.

The thing is I play background music every time I speak except after break (sometimes). But I'm not sure if that means I'd have to credit the background music I play during the Dumb Newsbreak because for one I don't remember the name of the instrumental I use in both the opening and closing of the segment. Every song I've used as background music is by a guy called Kevin MacLeod. But as for my show's newest opening theme that I also use as the closing theme, there is no name of the song because it was made by a friend of a friend. But then when it comes to my Halloween and Christmas shows, most background music I use does not have artist credit or doesn't even have a proper name. I'm just unsure about this new thing.

Understandable. I'll see what I can do.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Ok, more clarity then. I'm not asking you to mention the bgm on your show (I don't), only add it to your playlist - and even then, only if you use it during an entire announce. Every sfx you use doesn't need credit, just the things you use for more than 45 seconds or so.

Ex: You occasionally use tracks from Lucky Star OSTs as bgm (I have them as well; I just don't use them so I won't appear to be copying what you're doing). Those can be credited. Something you use only for a few seconds, not so much. I leave short sequences out of my show playlists, but those things are usually in the archive already....usually.

As mentioned before, we set up the bgm credit system during the last site upgrade to keep the lawyers off Wayne's back so there would still be a site to post shows on

As for the obscurity thing, the lawyers likely found the John Pinette tracks on the site using search bots, then they sent Wayne the cease & desist order. Thinking something is unlikely to be found on the net isn't as safe a thought as it once was.

I came home from Supercon and saw this. That explains the delay of my reply. I can understand what you mean, and I wish I could, but if I mentioned every single BGM I played before commercial break and memorials, the playlist would look a bit off. Like the Doc, I would mention the BGM if it has something to do with a particular song topic as I go into commercial break and mention it on air. I could, however, post the BGM I play on the site and put info on their respective pages.

Again, I would if I could. But I fear that most of my listeners would give a rip about what BGM I play before commercial. No disrespect, but we'll see how this goes in the old fashioned way. Besides, I'm too obscure for the lawyers to even know I exist.

Stavro Arrgolus:

I've a different sort of request.

When you add playlists, could you credit the bgm you use the way my show does? This is done by using "BG" in that column on the edit screen rather than LH or LI. The bgm credit appears purple on the playlist. A page also has to be made for it, but that's not a huge effort.

By crediting everything, this helps keep the lawyers at bay & assists in ensuring the site's continued existence. This request applies to everyone with a show here that uses bgm.

Site Fix Priority List

1. Fix things visitors (& lawyers) will notice. What I'm asking Anthony for falls under this category.

2. Destroy site vandalism - and the accounts of the vandals. As viciously as possible.

3. Make Shows - Visitors notice if there's no posted show. There should always be one in production. Seg. 3 of MMS-232 is currently in production.

4. Repair incorrect info - Starting with blatantly false things visitors will notice...and sometimes point out.

Eliminating duplicates is at the bottom of this category since visitors don't look for them. High profile fixes are always done first.

Stavro, the request line is closed for this week's show, but hey that sounds like a good idea, maybe for A-log's next show, maybe he could use what you said, same could go for Wackyness on the Rise.

P.S. Aren't you going to fix the artist's and one the song page's?
