I imagine I should...now. But right up until I went to bed at around 6 or 7 this morning, I was still toying with the idea of something that works best now, at Halloween, and at very few other times in the year.

The 'bonus track fake-out'. It's essentially an extra gimmick to add another aspect to a show. The more features a show has (that the listener actually likes), the better a show is...I would hope.

It's easy. I did it in the show before last. You end a show normally and after 30 or however many seconds of dead air, this unannounced track starts playing. The listener can tell one's coming because there's still runtime left that's visible in the player they're using. The last one was on the playlist. The next one might not be...

The stranger the bonus track(s), the better. But I already injected enough strangeness into the final segment's concept, so I couldn't think how to add to it. So yes. The title of this can become green now and I can get on with sorting out the final Halloween show this weekend for its Tuesday posting.

Here it is - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-203

Only the last segment is new, but there's no law saying you can't hear the whole thing again if you want.

Seg. 4 is hosted by "Consul Augustus Arrgolus", a vampire character who's so old, the concept of Halloween missed him completely. He finds hosting a show segment about it an amusing diversion - and a golden opportunity to be snarkier, more sarcastic and more critical of the modern world than the real host would ever make the effort to be. ...but that's not the fun part...

The "Consul's" delivery is deadpan to a fault. You can't actually take offense at it (not very often, anyway) because there's (almost) no malice in the patter. Everything he says is just 'matter of fact' to him. He has a chuckle at it because he finds it all...just a bit silly.

I know how it all sounds, but I had a scream making it. If for nothing else, just to try something different. Now it's time to get on with finishing Halloween III for this year, which, with quite a bit of luck, will be posted on Halloween itself.

Hard part's over. I managed to locate the "MMS-203 mp3s" from last year (it was in the wrong file location) and so now, the recording of the long missing segment can begin.

Full disclosure - this is really a bit experimental. "Which works better? The frenetic vampire hijinks or the laid back, if somewhat ominous, patter of Consul Augustine (he calls himself "Augustine" instead of "Augustus" - go figure)." No silly foreign accents, either.

There'll still be anime bgm - I know how that sounds, but it's really very effective in setting the mood. The Portal 2 OSTs deliver the Halloween spirit in an unexpected way as well. But the Consul's style of delivery will be more like Wayne or Dave's. Fewer histrionics, more DJ-like presentation. It'll even be SFW, so obviously, this is a one-off. The silliness returns with this year's Halloween III show.

The bgm for the segment will be "Unpeaceful", a rather creepy track from Gakkou Gurashi OST 1. The whole show uses this bgm style, so I can't change it. The end theme will be "Requiem for a Vampire" by Matt Fink (Prince's former keyboardist). This is the song that started the show (last year), so it has to end with it. Bonus track? Maybe.

Having listened to show 203 again, I see that even though I went well out of my way to avoid copying too many songs, this segment sounds a lot like segment 1 of the show I just made.

New plan: Rather than go with over the top histrionics, the vampiric guest host for the segment will be the progenitor of both the Arrgolus and Arrgula lines, (Consul Pious) Augustus Arrgolus. He possesses the laid back style of an undead guy who is merely amused by this whole "internet thingy".

To me, time moves so fast that Easter was last Thursday morning. To Consul Arrgolus, last Thursday morning was the time when there was no electricity or steam power and people still thought burning witches made for an entertaining diversion from foraging for filth. Even if the witches weren't made of wood or weighed the same as a duck.

So expect a bit of fun with last year's Halloween show III this week while I make this year's Halloween III for next week.

So, it's been a year. In the off-week when Wayne & Dave make their Halloween shows. I'll make an attempt to finish what I should have completed last year. It's only one segment...famous last words.

The playlist & script already exist for it, but no pre-written dialogue does. I must have stopped & moved on to the Xmas shows when I ran out of time. Now that the greyed out box in the add show pages is alterable now (but breaking everything else in the process of making it that way - sorry about that. I kept bugging him to fix it & it turned into quite a mess), I can make segments or entire shows retroactively. Starting with this one.

A weekend project, to be sure. To be posted next week. A week which will be for finishing Halloween III for this year. ...and trimming the hedges before the damn snow...you get the idea.

3 segments are uploaded. I'm contemplating adding recent requests to the 4th.

New plan. I'll post what's uploaded (if it's possible) & post the final segment when it's done - and who knows when that will be - the record for completing a show is five months. That's how long it took me to finish a 3+ hour Mad Music Xmas Special. I finished it on the following Easter Sunday or thereabouts as I recall.

The important bit is that it was completed & you can listen to it now. ...Tomorrow unofficially begins "Xmas Season", so maybe you should hear it then. There's a time & a place for everything.

Excellent! I've been awake for a little while now and I'm just finishing segment 3. I'll give posting the whole thing a shot when I'm done in an hour or 2.

The time is showing correctly now.

Ok, it's like this.

This show is complete & half recorded. 2 of the 4 segments are uploaded now. Ordinarily, I'd make a playlist & post what's complete right now & finish the recording tomorrow - as it's just before 3 am now.

But there's a problem. The last time I tried to make a show edit like that, the show (201) exploded and wouldn't play until Wayne fixed it - and even now with it working, all the segments still read "0 min 0 sec" as if it's still broken.

This damn sure doesn't help show 201's potential listenability. I have half a mind to delete the whole thing and re-post it just to see if the segments' actual runtimes would reappear.

So I'm left with a choice. Attempt to post all 4 completed segments when I finish them when I wake up this afternoon or do what I normally would and post 2 now and 2 then and risk another unfixable mess - unfixable by me, anyway.

There have been so many site improvements that allow me to sort out previously inaccessible problems myself, but this isn't one of them.

As with all old people, I'm going to do what seems safest. Finish making the remaining 2 segments when I wake up (assuming I do) and post them when they're all uploaded - assuming that's even possible. I'll have a go at it this afternoon and we'll see what happens.

Well they say, The third time's the charm. Good luck with the show.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Changed the title a third time. The title is now taken from a Bessie Smith song. And no, this isn't the show about the Devil I mentioned in a previous show. That's still to come. Often think these shows take so long because I'm never satisfied with the way they are & I keep changing things. Just finishing the details so I can actually record the damn thing.

And this is also the way I make the Xmas shows... Hoo, boy.

"We the ancients, the founders of your so-called civilization"...never mind.

Civilization 6 is out. Going to wait until all the bugs are worked out before buying it. They release games full of bugs and then clean them up with 'updates' that should have been sorted out before release.

But noooooo! Release day money is more important than releasing a bug-free game. Scumbags! I know how to wait. Let the millennials bitch & moan about these things. I'll turn up in February to get the game at a discount...suckers.

To answer the question, greed is worse. Death is inevitable. Greed is simply one of many so-called "sins".

All that takes a back seat to Halloween hilarity. The playlist is done. Wayne's show will be posted this weekend and I've got a script to write so that show 203 doesn't blow goats.

Which is more obscene - death or greed?  The philosophical questions raised by comedy music shows.....

This is the thread for the third & last Halloween MMS.

The show just posted is practically SFW. "Ass" gets said a few times...and that's it. There's nothing else objectionable in show 201. Well, not to me, anyway.

That's going to get sorted out in this new show. I'm not planning to go crazy with it...that's not right; I am planning to go crazy with it. That's what Halloween is for. It's just not going to be excessively vulgar. Xmas shows always seem to be dirtier than these Halloween episodes for some reason.

This show is tentatively scheduled for posting on Halloween. This is why 201 was posted on Monday. The plan is for 3 Monday shows, the last one on Halloween. Then the shows go back to being made 'when I feel up to it'.

Until Xmas, of course.
