Hmm...that sounds a lot like the original plan.

From the word go, I decided that that I would use the very same dementia that I find here and there - but with themes that were often more twisted than the songs. And that wasn't good enough.

There'd be a feature that would send the show spiraling off in another direction. I made this show that was supposed to be about monkeys. This one: www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-165 But I HATE those face-ripping, sh*t throwing f-ing primates. In that scene in one of the "Faces of Death" movies where the idiots were eating the brains out of the dead monkey's skull (so fake) at the restaurant, I couldn't stop laughing. That's how much I hate the damn dirty apes.

So the show got zapped with the feature and it suddenly became about dog abuse. Not "dogs" - that would have been duller than monkeys. And it would have been wrong. No, dog abuse. There was even a song that made a (supposedly) clever transition from one theme into the other.

If there's to be a show with crazy music, it had damn well better start crazy, be consistently crazy, and have themes that are often crazier than the songs. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it. If that means there need to be phony vampires with silly accents who 'invent' strange inanimate objects (just because), so be it.

Just remember Barry has been doing this for a long, long time and even he repeats the same songs over and over. Besides you are not Barry. Go with your gut. Make the best show that you can with what you have. There are a lot of demented songs that have only been played a few times to choose from. It's not like you are going to run out of material to play.

There are places all over the net to find new material and I look there...maybe too often. This show should be done by now.

But I find what the listener wants is a similar mix to what Barry's been playing these past few decades - A smattering of new songs that have a chance to become classics one day spread out over the 2 hours and an awful lot of the familiar.

Holiday shows are about the familiar even more than regular ones. That other holiday even more so than this one...though Halloween's still not actually a legal holiday.

So that's what I'll deliver. Though there may be a surprise or 3 this year. And I don't mean silly vampire characters.

The songs are familiar.  Maybe there is something new with high musical quality you can find.  In any case the presentation and interstitial humor are the biggest draw.  Looking forward to it!

It's that time again. When your guts spill out like sour cream and you slap it on some moldy bread, 'cause that's what you eat when you are dead. Or something...

Yes, it's time for the Mad Music Show Halloween shows. Request songs if you want, but at this point, the songs are so familiar that these shows become all about the presentation & the general histrionics.

We'll have all your favorite stuff: vampires (of course), blood, werewolves, mummies, zombies, explosive diarrhea...well, maybe not that last one.
