fiogf49gjkf0d {In my best Larry the Cable Guy voice} Get 'er done! : -)
--- Stavro Arrgolus:
Show 163 will be finished first - mainly due to overall show length.
Upon posting, the making of 163 will continue until it evolves over days by adding segments afterward from a Mad Music Hour into a full 2 hour Mad Music Show - the first in 7 months.
Depending on how that goes, this show (157) will either resume recording & be completed or - if 163's progression pattern is a success, a quick (well, maybe not so quick) re-record of existing Audacity files using 163's example can get this 3-hour monster show posted faster - piece by piece. I said it couldn't be done...maybe things really are only impossible until they're not.

fiogf49gjkf0d I just noticed that it's been almost a month since this project started. It's taking too damn long. (Oh, you're just noticing this NOW, old fart?!)
I've overreached again.
Screw it. I'm going to rerecord a ending sequence of a completed segment to make a releasable show that I can add segments to later and post some form of either MMS-157 or MMS-163 after the holiday and this weekend. Then I'll remember to never to bite off more than I can chew again.
The worst part? I can't even remember if I said that last part sometime in the past or not.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Update: The final maniacal medical journey has been completed & survived. The rest of the month is mine.
This show can now be completed without further interruption. I hope.
Actually, when the terror of the medical trips weren't upon me, I've been watching the trial on TV and gathering mp3s for MMS-163 - since most aren't here. This show's long completed in that area, of course.
There's no time limit on when this show can be released as it's a holiday show, but a fun experiment would be to release an MMH of 163 and then build it up to a full 2 hour MMS - just to see if it could be done, i.e., if the site's program would permit it. This is something that was originally planned for but can no longer be done with this show.
No law says a show must have an ending. Especially if the listener knows segments are coming later that contain one.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I know. I saw you looking at the song pages the way the rest of us do when we're gathering mp3s to assemble shows. If Wayne would fix the function that puts the podcasts on iTunes, you could make podcasts occasionally. Or we could switch shows sometimes. But since your voice is better than mine, try not to make them too good until I get a chance to get better at this - or at least until I've bought an better microphone.
Now, a few more words about the sacrilegious theme-breaking feature.
Yesterday, I was riding my newly cleaned and de-rusted Nordic Track following the murderous diet prescribed to me so I don't die (stupid doctors) and reviewing the completed mp3 segments of what I have so far - it's a loooong show - when I noticed that it goes on and on for a quite a while before...it happens.
It's not like that MST3K ep. "Hercules vs. The Moon Men" where the mads constantly tell you it's coming - "DEEP HURTING! DEEP HURTING!!!" No, it's an ordinary show and a holiday one at that and then, bam! But...
People are going to be listening and saying, "Where's the 'kaboom?' There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!"
There are a lot of segments. The feature is carefully calculated to arrive when it'll cause maximum "grievous mental confusion" and you'll be screaming, "No mas" soon enough. When I conceived of this, my concern was, "should I even interrupt a holiday show of Halloween songs at all with something else? If I do, it had better be something very fitting or even more horrifying." I think I made the right choice of content. Not that I've even gotten up to making that part yet.
There's an element of this I keep missing. The other thing that slows down this production...slightly, but not significantly. I'm continuing to build MMS-163 as I make this show. I just played a bit of GTA - Vice City again today and..."Hey, why isn't this song I'm hearing in this game in the show? There, fixed."
One last thing... All of the Halloween songs were chosen last year, so there are only two requests in the whole show. It'll become more obvious why that is when you hear it. This show is as much about completing what I missed last year as anything else. Any loose Halloween requests in my inbox or that I missed in any other way will be gathered and applied to new Halloween shows in a few months - you know, when it's actually Halloween.

fiogf49gjkf0d Good for you Stavro. Full speed ahead!
I have a couple of ideas for shows that I'm kicking around. Maybe by the end of summer I might have time to make one.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I hope you like it. The patter is clean; I didn't want to set a bad example after the last show - not that anyone on teh internets listens to anyone else anyway.
Some of you hipster young people may find the show's scenario (what little there is of it) corny/tacky. As with MST3K, just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show, I should really just relax". Especially since there's 3 hours of it. And it's a holiday show, so I get a tradition-based pass. Only for shows like this.
But after this week's nasty medical festivities, this show's so going to be late, late, late. Just don't go writing it off yet. Some of it's done already. And I have another hospital visit next week. If I survive today's trip. ...Update: Trip survived. Show making switches to high gear for the weekend now that the medical foolishness is out of the way for this week. If I get through the last appt ok, I'll be good to go for all next month.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I can't wait to hear what you cooked up! I'm looking forward to it.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I know I've been making a fuss and posting way too much about these shows, but having the flagship show back after all this time & trying to generate interest in it again is certainly something to post about.
I survived yesterday's hospital trip, but I got heat exhaustion of some kind. Damn heat waves. Tomorrow's hospital trip involves the road that almost killed me in April. If I manage to get through that one, I'm going to try and take a big bite out of what remains of this show's production this weekend. Not going to manage to finish then, though.
The actual production's...becoming a bit silly. It's a holiday show, so that's to be expected, but if I were the Monty Python colonel, I'd be busting in and 'stopping it' by now.
From the DJ-ing perspective, this show is unlike the last one in that it's very clean/fun while still being as irreverent as a Halloween show can be. I think the 3 hours have been put to good use. The 'new feature' surprise adds an element that takes out any dullness that having 8 whole segments might bring to a show.
The new feature has a beginning sfx, but if it's going to run for a while, doesn't it need an ending as well? I think so, so I'm working on a very silly one-off ending that ties into the show's surprise.
Hopefully, this special will live up to any holiday shows of the past, so try to overlook the stupid noises the crappy mic and the AC (there's another heat wave going on) make. Can't be helped.

fiogf49gjkf0d How It's Going
Terror-related delay: As I may have mentioned somewhere, I have 2 scheduled hospital visits this week at two different hospitals. The first is a cancer ultrasound (on my neck) - but that's not scary. I have to go into the damn city and pass through the territories of two - let's just call them "high profile gangs" (No, not them. The other ones.) to get there. Ever play GTA3? What's in Portland besides the Leones?... Right. Same thing, only real. That's where the 'terror' comes in.
As for the show, there's cheesy sfx and fun H'ween (and other) songs, surprises & "visitors". It's only with this type of holiday show can you do cheesy, corny and ok, stupid, things and actually be expected to do them because it's part of what the holiday's about.
I can't even make a site folder and put the completed segments in them one by one as I usually do since that would require a completion date for the folder name - and I don't know when that will be. Maybe a 3 hour show's easy for some of you, but it's quite an effort for me.
If I survive the trips (and yes, I know I'm overreacting), work will continue on the show. It's coming out fine so far. This is just an update on why it going to take so damn long. To reiterate: TMMS isn't stopping again; a long show and a scary circumstance or 3 is merely slowing it a bit.
I have to go back there next week for the test results & a consultation with my specialist (one of them, anyway). Oh, the fun you're going to have when you get older...
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Actually, the direction was set in stone the moment I thought of the idea. The 'where to' came before the 'why do it?.' There is an element of what you suggest in it - at least at the start. The feature consumes whole segments this time. That's why it's a 3 hour special AND why it can't be released piece by piece. The listener has to guess when it'll stop. "Has the show turned into something else...or not?" When you hear it, you'll know why the gag wasn't as risky (in a holiday show) as it sounds.
And the playlist won't help since there won't be one. It'll exist, but it'll be empty for quite a while.
Even though you'll be fooled by the gag only once, hopefully, the show will be made in a way that you'll want to hear it again.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d For careening off in another direction, how about 'other Scary Stuff'? ie. Don't go down to 3 mile island, Mr. Regan and the bomb, NSA listening in, Fondle me TSA guy, you get the picture?
|

|
fiogf49gjkf0d Glad you like it. Dr. Seuss was from these parts, you know.
Is it wrong to send a holiday show careening off in another direction? It depends on which direction, I would imagine. And I'm only attempting it because it's not actually Halloween.
One of the reasons it's going to take quite a while is because hopefully, it will be put together well enough that it'll be something you might actually want to listen to more than once. Crappy mic and all. Holiday shows should be like that anyway.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Oh, this is MUCH better! Thank you. :D
--- Stavro Arrgolus:
So I'm assembling this show, updating the script and thinking of a way in hell I could possibly incorporate the amusing new theme breaking feature (well, it amuses me, anyway) into a holiday show.
Then I got an idea. An awful idea! The Grinch editing bastard got a wonderful, awful idea! It solves blandness problems and allows expansion of the show with minimal effort at the same time, you know. It also incorporates past ideas that haven't been used yet like those green pet Chias.
It's malicious what's in store, but to think like a whore, it's not something no one's considered before. I'm just doing it now. Look out for that cow. Looks like I can't post this playlist right now. Nor after the show. You'll just have to listen to hear how it'll go. I'd better stop typing in this...rhyming stuff.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d There, read that last post again. It should be a little bouncier...
Nø, realli! Big show, minimal change, much improvement. Holiday show sacrilege? Maybe. Profane? Not this show. ..Not very often. But what this show will do is nothing corporate America hasn't already thought of.
Oh, did I mention making a big freaking 3 hour Mad Music Special all at once instead of piece by piece would take even longer than an ordinary MMH or MMS and that because of the "feature surprise", it must be made in one piece?
I mention this because I don't want a week or two going by and having you think that I've stopped making shows completely again. I haven't. This is just going to take me a while. For this time, I have unnerving scheduled hospital visits as well as annoying household tasks to deal with.
--- Max DeGroot:
You need to make this rhyme.

fiogf49gjkf0d Indeed it is. More listeners want to hear holiday shows. Maybe not right this minute, but over the long haul. I also want to plug up that nasty hole I left in the main TMMS show list last year for this very show.
Might as well make it first. Since it'll start as a full 2-hour MMS (and then perhaps expand into a Mad Music Special later), it'll take a week or more to make. I'm not as quick as the others. Since all the good/interesting sfx were used to make MMS-156 last Fall, much of that week will be used for working out how to make this show not suck.
MMS-163 will be on hold until it's done. Though I'll still be building its playlist, gathering it's mp3s and such. By the time the holiday show is done, this one will be ready to be made as well.

fiogf49gjkf0d Halloween music is good any time, IMHO.

|
fiogf49gjkf0d CRAP!
I just found both the big folder full of mp3s for this show I apparently made last year AND a script for it - things that I thought didn't exist. I must have had to go right back into the hospital to not have made this. I recall something like that happening...
With a bit of updating, there's no reason I can't start making this show this weekend...right after I deal with the flood in the basement - have to be realistic here. But that's what I've been doing today anyway. Besides the shopping trip - needed expensive health/death food (when you eat "health" food, you're dead already).
In the MMS-163 thread, I point out that this show would be relegated out of play for seasonal reasons rather quickly and wouldn't be listened to very often. Not a good fate for a new show. I should just wait a few months to make the Halloween show the way Satan intended, stop being lazy and continue making MMS-163 from scratch.
So, if anyone gives a rat's ass, which show would you like to hear first? This Halloween show or the "Is It Dementia?" (MMS-163) show? They're both going to get made. It's just a matter of when.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d While the construction of MMS-163 is going on, I think I can also get this Halloween show done as well.
If it's indeed to be the first Mad Music Special as my blog suggests, now, while I have all the hospital visits scheduled would be the time to make these shows. All this is going to take time and the health horrors would have delayed the shows anyway, so now would be the sensible time to attempt longer shows.
This may be a good episode to do evil experiments on. 157 may be the monster I have to build myself. I may post it as a MMH, then add segments to make it an MMS, then 2 more to make it a Special.

fiogf49gjkf0d i think this works for the Halloween show
The Pizza's Revenge Bruce Popka
Part Time Job From Hell Justin Reed & Tori Ludders
Night Of The Living Deadheads Duck Logic
Friday The 13th The Musical Open Season
House Of Frankenstein Johnny Legend
thanks

fiogf49gjkf0d I bet you thought I forgot about this, didn't you? It's a site version of spring cleaning.
So how about it? Who wants to hear a Halloween show out of season?
What I really need is help getting MMH-159 back on the main show list. Go on. Have a look at the TMMS show list. No 159. My last attempt to get Wayne to fix it was less that successful. Somebody (other than me) needs to email him and tell him this. Again.
Admittedly, this was all my fault, though it was a noob show posting mistake at the time - I didn't know the posting page would fail upon entering "MMH" instead of "MMS" I thought it was all good. What was I thinking?
At any rate, this show can be a full 2 hour and made & posted whenever. Since my doctor just put me on a murderous task-specific diet, it would make a good diversion. Diet really is just "die" with a "t" after all.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d So....it's over. The bastard weather did considerably more than ruin Halloween and cause a week of no electricity like it did last year.
Since Halloween is over, I'm considering making the next scheduled show (the "hygiene" show) and finishing & posting the last Halloween show, renamed "Every Day is Halloween" to drive home the point that the show wasn't made at Halloween, whenever. Since I was unsure when the site would come back up, I put off making the shows until it did. Both scripts are long since complete, anyway.
From now until Xmas, the shows will be posted when they're done rather than on any particular day.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Just once I'd like to have Halloween without the bastard weather trying to kill us.
Last year, it was a foot of snow that laid waste to my backyard and knocked the power out until well into November. Now the damn hurricanes wait until Halloween to try once again to relieve me of my house.
And again, I have to put off what I'm doing and prepare for another visit from Mother Fuc...Nature. This pisses me off. Now I'm determined to make this show no matter how long the power's out this time.
It'll be posted when this weather foolishness is done. Even if it takes until Thanksgiving. For now, I have to continue to clear my cellar out for the upcoming flood and it's taking everything out of me. That's what I've been doing today, having completed the external chores earlier in the week. It's almost midnight and I'm still not done.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Doctor imposed exile is over. Time to get back to it. ...so it's Wednesday, is it? You lose track of time when bedridden.
Gotta take down the AC before the bastard hurricane, finish the laundry, go to the dump - and there was one other thing I had to do...
Oh yes, MMS-157-A. Didn't get a chance to make it. Gotta shift it closer to Halloween. And make a few adjustments to the playlist, hence the "-A". There's even a new feature. Still, two Halloween Mad Music Shows are better than none at all.

I'm already pushing my luck with the Greek thing. As we all know, the Greeks don't want no freaks. www.madmusic.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=34315
The name is a HHGttG reference from "Mostly Harmless" where we find out where Stavromula Beta actually is.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I think you should find the name or ship of an ancient Greek plunderer or warship. You know, keep up the Greek name thing.
--- Stavro Arrgolus:
... I'll call it ....something ... for playing topical .....
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Davy Jones Locker is an excellent name for it!
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d And Now For Something...Totally Other Than Else A new feature for the show featuring a song or two that goes outside the theme. Its purpose is to play strange songs that I wouldn't ever have a chance to play within any theme. The 'Capn's Treasure Chest' (going to have to change that - I'll call it Davy Jones' Locker or something) is for playing topical or FuMP songs that don't fit the theme, but should get a play anyway, but this is just for my amusement - and to freak out those listening to the show while looking at the playlist. For this segment won't appear on the playlist. Not at the time of its release, anyway.
My voice will announce those words at the top and the feature will unceremoniously begin. The number of songs played will be random - from 1 to 6. The feature can and will appear at any point in each show. Possibly more than once. Maybe it can have its own sound effect.
Alright...bathroom break's over. Back to bed.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Serious pain. Told doctor what I was doing. He said, "Stop doing that and get lots of rest now."
Script is finished and mp3s are collected. It just needs to be recorded now. The show will be posted sometime next week. Going to bed as ordered.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Done and done.
Time for another show update. The hospital visit went well and incredibly, I've completed the playlist for a full 2 hr show and a chunk of the script. This isn't surprising since it's coming up on 3 am and I always seem to do my best work around this time. I was never a 'night person'; the bastard insomnia made me this way. Oh well.
I have 3 days to slap this thing together. By all means, continue to request songs. Dave used the vote button on the song pages and they got to me immediately as mentioned below. His requests are now in show 2.
Note: We're supposed to get a gulley washer around here on Friday. If my basement floods again, I'll have to clean that up instead of making a show. That's just how it is.

fiogf49gjkf0d Christmas is mentioned in "Nature Trail To Hell" by Weird Al but you played that also.

Halloween Challenge I played Max DeGroot's new Halloween/Xmas song in the last show. Aside from "Monster's Holiday" and all things Tim Burton influenced, can you think of other songs that combine Halloween and Xmas?

|
fiogf49gjkf0d If you want your request to get to me immediately, use the one-touch vote button on the song pages. As I mentioned elsewhere, Wayne put me on the site's mailing list a while back, so the votes come directly to me as well as him. I put them in a folder and look them all over before each show.
How do you feel about an occasional "Mad Music Hour"? I've a hospital visit far too soon, the pain I'm in is ridiculous and I may not manage 2 hours this week - the 3rd show should be ok, though. Podcasts are actually harder to make because of the lack of song availability. If there's no theme, it's easy, but this month...
Also, remember to check out the news section of the site. I try to add new and hopefully amusing things every now and again. You can add a story as well if you want. It's not that terrible of an effort to do. Give it a try.
Here's how it is - If the hospital visit goes well and I make it home, there might be a full show 157. But if I get hospitalized for 'observation' again...well, it'll be just like Wayne being too busy to make the show - only instead of 'busy', the excuse will be 'pain'. Show 158 will definitely be 2 hours, though. Just like last week, nothing medical is scheduled then.
