That was probably why when I streamed holiday music on live365 in December, the listener numbers went way up. Then after Dec 25 when the holiday music ended and I returned to playing normal abnormal funny music, the listeners went way down. I saw no sense of running funny holiday music if the listeners are not going to stick around between January and November when I ran non holiday funny music.

Well... I am one of those members who only comes around during Christmas... I can only speak for myself of course, but as a child my Dad would listen to the Dr. Demento show regularly. But I was only allowed to listen along on Christmas shows. So "demented Christmas" is a family tradition for us, so to speak. This is the only place I can come to get my fix with out hearing the exact same songs on repeat (unlike the CDs we have purchased) So all in all I'm really happy this site exists, if for no other reason than that.

Sorry... but I take exception to that screenshot, it must have BEEn doctored since I used to do a lot more than just stuff the ballot box of contests ;)

No, I can't make site pages. If I could, I wouldn't be bugging him all the time to fix this or change that...but that's as may be.

Do you know why we don't have contests any more? Let me locate the screenshots...now what do you suppose all these people were doing at precisely the same time? www.madmusic.com/display_photo.aspx?id=2131

Can we run a music/new song contest without Wayne's direct intervention?

I think we need games here or more music contests ?

By the power of Cthulhu, I've extended this thread's expiration date for a year - if only to ask the question again with the Xmas people here. Though they're not all here since the bulk e-mail hasn't been sent - and by Christ, I'm going to send it myself if I don't hear from Wayne soon.

There's considerably more to do here than 7 years ago. Enough to justify looking in on the site a couple of times a month and keep an active membership. Or so one would think.

Good idea Tim. Additionally, I think a regular email newsletter would also go a long way toward keeping people interested. Of course, such a newsletter would have to be an opt in/opt out thing. But a (semi)regular reminder might help with some of the fence sitters.

Maybe we need to be a little more welcoming. While new users get an email to confirm their memberships, maybe a follow-up should be sent. Not a total information dump, concise enough to point out what's on the site, without overloading, and yes, I consider the once-a-year Christmas email overloading the potential reader. Hopefully, it could also be dynamic, picking up on what the new member did.
If someone would like to be a New Member Ambasador, a person who is around here on a reqular basis to get email from those who have questions. (It should be directed to MadMusicAmbasador at MadMusic.com and Wayne sets up the redirects).

I think people land here because they are looking for a specific holiday song, and stick around long enough to find the song and perhaps listen to a few shows. Other than that, I have a feeling the comedy music genre is on a downward slide, and our numbers are reflecting that trend. I suppose what we need is another Weird Al to stir things up.

I only come to the site to vote in the Dementia Top 20 and listen to new songs. I don't use the forums at all. I do come onto the site 2 or 3 times a week to update my DT20 votes and see what new songs are now listed, but that is about it. If Emi Briet has not posted a link to this question on her Facebook page, I probably would have never seen it. But it is worth making a reply to it given it is a serious question.

If your type actually bothers to look at the forums and see this, tell us why you only look in on the site at holidays - (and, yes, I know they're already gone). I'd be interested to know. Is there nothing here to hold your attention at other times? There are many streaming shows, podcasts to hear and videos to watch. Even The Mad Music Show is made more consistently now, so...

What is it that makes you lose interest in the site?

...There, I said it..I feel better...
