Check out the Shows forum and follow the links to 91-43 through 91-48 where I put into the forum a first play/only play report from data I gathered when I recovered those shows from WWO-LPs.
Now we need a way for Wayne to automate it without the data being gathered each time a playlist is served up to each viewer.

could a report be posted/linked to of show date, show number, artist, title where first play = last play? It wouldn't be perfect as I've noticed some songs that were performed live before they were released and there were probably versions where unrelased/demos were played, and artists change names and that might impact the data, but for those interested in the topic, it could be a interesting.

thanks Wayne!

along with the one-hit wonders, in the KMET-82-50 show is the only complete play in the digital archive of one of my favorite Christmas carols...the 12 Days of Christmas, by the Mushroom Tabernacle Choir!

[hey...I went to college in the 70s...what can I say?]

Well, you're right there! I just posted (3) KMET shows and each of them has one play wonders - and a number of other cuts which were only played a couple of times on the synicated shows. To keep it interesting, I'll mix up the posts from here on - a little SYND and a little KMET/KPPC.

my 2 cents...

some KMET stuff...only because the Dr. played a lot of stuff on those shows that never made it on to the syndicated show...

Yeah, I got about a stack of 50 shows on LP to get done, plus some from CDs that upgrade what we have, mostly radio editions.
I've been working on the summer of 1987 KLSX shows--fresh rips from cassettes, I got 4 of 6 in this group done, with the first 2 to get worked on. Probably work on one tonight while the All-Star game is on.
I got some 1985 KMET shows to get to Wayne, once he catches up on others shows I sent his way earlier.

Yeah, that's in my huge 'to-be-ripped' LP stack. Of course, I just received over 200 cassette tapes of KMET shows that I need to rip as well, so... What to do first? Maybe mixed bag? I figure I have about 150 shows that I need to get to now.

Suggesitons?

Requests?

I contacted Wayne about that about a month ago...he said that he has that show, he just hasn't had the time to upload it yet. I'd be happy to get you a copy if it's needed.

91-04? Hey, that's one we don't have here. Can you get us a copy of that show? (It's not on the needed list, but is needed).

my personal favorite:

The Walter Brennan Blues - Limbo Drive-In

played only on show 91-04. it made me laugh so hard, my ribs hurt! I finally found the show on ebay in 1999 and bought it, just for that song. if you're old enough to remember Walter Brennan, you'll love it.

I recently discovered this website and have been getting back to being demented for the first time in decades!

I have several tapes of songs recorded off shows over the period of 1980 - 1986. And two of these songs were one play wonders!

The first comes from the November 8, 1981 show and is "Dreams", a fantastic 5 minute montage assembled by Damaskas (he of "Making Love In A Subaru" fame). I still listen to this song every now and then...

The second comes from the January 31, 1982 show and is "Moral Majority Top 40" by Deloy Parks. The song is about a DJ playing music and being constantly interrupted by a fanatical woman who explains why he shouldn't be playing the music! It was a hoot then and still is now.

Okay, more research.
These are for SYNDicated shows only. I exclude play on KMET or other live/special shows, as we will never have all the data.

As I work with a show to archive it, I track first plays and only plays and keep notes.
These are done over time from late 2001 to this past week, in the order the file entered the directory.
Here are a bunch of only plays. Some may have got another play since I did the look-ups. Some may not be only plays due to differences in spelling-I do try to shiff those out.

I may have said it here or elsewhere, but the number of songs played only once is a very big population. The count of first plays plus only plays on a show seem to usually be about four, with some shows having more, due to the topic, the interview, or use of excertps. And of course, show number #1 having 16 first plays (and one song played only once).

I'll add these to this thread but still like the One Play Wonders title...

9-18-83 Death Cab for Cutie by Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
show 83-38 (know I spelled it wrong in other post)

10-12-80 Pittsburg, Pennsylvania by Guy Mitchell
show 80-41 (needed for archives)
I can still hear the melody of this in my head ;)

I agree that the farther back these were played the better for making them 'Classic dementia' and worth bringing to newer generations of listeners.

* Entire show repeated in 1996.

Now there are some that probably made the listing due to differences
in spellings, or have been played since October, 2003.
Some events of 1995 helped to contribute to the 'only onceness' of
the above songs:
-O J trial & such
-Death of Burl Ives
-Death of Wolfman Jack
-release of DrD "Mother Goose" CD

Let's come up with the ones that should get played again, at least
one more time. For me, 5 would include:
It Never Rains In Sunny California - Spike Jones
Send 'Em Back - The Foremen [may have been played again already]
I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly - Burl Ives
There's A Moose On The Loose - Roddy Jackson [for the great Moose medly]
Mountain Dew - Bascom Lamar Lunsford [let's hear it for the red states]
