June 20 - 1:30 am EDT

No one's satisfied with anything these days.

Last year, I defeated Type 2 diabetes by losing 60+ pounds and becoming fit. And what did I get for my trouble? Sciatica from the exercise machine and a doctor telling me I lost too much weight and that I needed to gain some of it back.

Wait, what? All the disgusting blubber is gone from my frame, my back doesn't hurt anymore and he wants me to put the weight back on? How? I'm not allowed to eat anything interesting now. If I do, the diabetes comes back. This was months ago. Now, my endocrinologist tells me this week that I'm too thin for the low iodine diet that precedes a full cancer bodyscan. The diet would kill me before the cancer did. It would make me underweight, at the very least.

These guys started this "lose weight or else" crap. Make up your mind, Doctor Frankenstein.

In other news, since I can't have a full bodyscan (at least not for now), the medical misadventures end here and the rest of the month is mine. After a bit of shopping & nasty household tasks tomorrow, the production of MMH-187, the conspiracy-themed Mad Music Hour will finally resume this weekend. The playlist is essentially complete; I just need to think of a few more snide bon mots to add to the script and we're off.

April 10 - 7:30 pm EDT

This week's medical appointments are out of the way now, so I can get on with things. It's time I started actually being an editor again and got on with the business of editing.

When last I left it, I was in the process of adding all the words to all the George Carlin bits. Quite a task. No other site has them all. I tore apart the net to find Carlin's bits word for word on a site somewhere else long ago and they did exist here and there. But as you might expect, they were few and far between. No one comes close to having what we do (many albums are already complete) and no one credits the material as heavily as us. I guess no one's made the effort.

Admittedly, the "Carlin word for word" thing started for my own amusement and I keep a copy of it all elsewhere just in case the lawyers demand that all of it be taken down one day (I bought the albums, so fuck you, lawyers!), but the idea began...with him. In the original 1977 "On The Road" LP, a 'libretto', an insert containing amusing drawings along with all the words of all the bits on the album are included with the album. An interesting idea, I thought...

When lyrics or comedy bits are added, we go out of our way to make sure the material is heavily credited to the artist & companies the works are registered with. This applies to everyone and not just Carlin. The grey info box on song pages was redesigned a few years ago to accommodate more crediting info to help ward off the lawyers - just in case.

Adding Carlin bits is a low impact activity that meets with the approval of my doctors who insist that I rest more and gain weight. And how often do you hear doctors tell you that? While that's going on, a new Easter-themed Mad Music Hour is being assembled for production next week. You can always make a request for that on its thread in the forums.

April 5 - 1:30 am EDT

No, I'm not going to sit here and complain about my latest medical misadventure that sidetracked recent shows.

It's Spring - when an old man's thoughts turn to...cleaning the immense mess around the house caused by a severe winter and preparing for the horrific "lawn care season", that pointless, money eating monster that appears around this time each year and exists for the sole purpose of having "flat grass", an exclusively first world desire if there ever was one.

Last weekend's floods have been pumped out of the cellar, things are drying out down there and I'm even feeling a bit better, so there's an off chance some show segments can get recorded in the upcoming week - though I still think Wayne should have a go at making a podcast or 2 again now that he has the time now. Hope he hasn't lost interest.

That aside, the plan remains the same. Complete the final 2 segments of last year's Xmas special and then make MMP-30. Depending on how much time I have left afterward, the next show may be the Easter episode. Expect blasphemous irreverence. But then, you knew that was coming already, didn't you?

This weekend, as it says above, production resumes on the 'conspiracies' show, MMH-187. Unless, of course, something conspires to stop it again. If you've an idea for the show and it's better than what's on the playlist, I'll replace something there with it. But then, this has always been the policy....

Well, there you go, then. That's quite a task in and of itself. Pick your favorite dementia, locate & fill out its entire discography, then move on to something else the way I do. It beats playing Civilization IV or The Sims III for the umpteenth time, which is what I did before late March 2007 when I became editor.

Wayne appreciates a well filled out page. Mainly because our site has more song details than Dr. Demento's site. YO HO HO! ...But this...thing we have with the Demento site has to end and some kind of truce needs to be called at some point. We need to work together for the betterment of the genre...or something. Funny I never hear from them. Perhaps Emi has. She's got better connections.

Good Job Stavro!!

I used to belong to a top 40 music lyrics site. Since a lot of sites just copy from every other site, many errors are perpetuated. I was always appalled at how often their lyrics did not match what the singer sang. Even some liner notes were wrong because the group or singer changed a word here and there during the actual recording. "Live" versions don't always match the "Studio" version. There are songs out there that I still can not understand what the performer is actually saying in the song. Sometimes another person can help by listening from a different perspective. Transcribing takes a lot of time & work.

It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. Keep up the good work!

p.s. I'm still trying to add all the Bob Rivers song lyrics. ;-)

Comedy bits are much harder and take many times longer than a song to add the words to. That's why there are only 2 for now. If I could find these somewhere on the net, I'd get them instead of doing it the hard way. But even then, I'd edit them to my own standard; I'm just too anal that way. Or maybe that's just good editing sense at work, who knows?
