I rewrote the blogs screen (obviously, if you're here reading this). I'll eventually to all the forum pages that way - one at a time.

New features:

* columns are sortable
* list is paginated
* you can pick the page length
* new indicator shows you which have new/unread posts
* shows last posting-person now
* added avatars for creator & last-poster
* shows total number of items (within the past 90 days anyway)

More to come (but probably not quickly).

I think that's why I like it. Rather than trying to hit a specific number you get to point to the "feel" of the rating. Whole numbers and exact halves are mind-constructs. The averaging of the ratings makes them negligible (if we have enough ratings).

We have 370 songs with at least 5 votes. One even has 13 votes. 6,498 songs have at last one vote.

Yes, I will stay with the basic layout, but I want to modernize it a bit. Still playing with that look.

Looks good.
A little hard to aim for whole numbers (ie, 7.0), but it works. Like the fact it updates without reloading the page. Cleaner code is good.
The Song Rating concept did not get as much use as I thought it would, though. Are there any songs with as many as 5 votes?

Just to be sure I rewrote the song rating control. ....

Thank you for sticking with this basic Song Detail page layout. I never liked the way-too-many-tabs-that-few-are-going-to-click proposed version.

Captain Wayne:

I basically rewrote the entire code behind [the Song Details] page reducing it from 3100 lines to 2200 lines and using the new data access layer objects I developed.

Just to be sure I rewrote the song rating control. You'll see it looks a bit different (uses stars now) - but I like it, and the code is a lot cleaner. Keep me posted if you spot a specific song that's a problem.

Well, the 'rate this song' thing is kinda kooky now.
When I put in my rating from 0, the result still shown zero ratings, but gave the|a result.
Another song with rating 0 with 0 votes was all red--I wondered if that could have come from some former member no longer with an account having a vote in the system. Sorry, I don't remember the songs. I can try to replecate if you can't get the same results.

Did you get a chance to 'shake out' the Song page prior/next occasionaly not getting back to prior after going alphabeticly next? Probably from songs doing into the database and not getting the new neighbors pointers quite right.

Actually, if that was the only problem then I did pretty good. I basically rewrote the entire codebehind on that page reducing it from 3100 lines to 2200 lines and using the new data access layer objects I developed.

On the song pages the list of shows has switched from ascending date to descending date.

Sounds like information that could be dynamicly updated or daily updated on the Home page. It would also be interesting to see of the 45,000 Song pages, how many have membership provided data (maybe beyond Duration and Release date).

... we get 45,000 song pages, 9,100 artist pages, 7,700 album pages, 3,500 show pages, 54,000 MadSpace pages, etc., etc., etc.

That's what it is!

Actually, it's about 250 programs all working together to bring a real-time content management system for comedy & novelty music. Sure, there's going to be bugs - the site has over 125,000 lines of code in 110 "web page programs" and 115 "data layer programs".

But from that we get 45,000 song pages, 9,100 artist pages, 7,700 album pages, 3,500 show pages, 54,000 MadSpace pages, etc., etc., etc.

With this amount of programming, this amount of data, this kind of dynamic, real-time interface, a few bugs are to be expected!

Your patience is appreciated!

You were correct sir!

Fixed!

Tim P. Ryan:

On Song pages it still looks like songs played on Wacky Ben and A-Log are not turning on the 'Listen Now' icon. Maybe other shows.

Noted on Editor's blog also. I guess when you fix something, something else goes wrong.
