Topic: 50 years as 50 states

fiogf49gjkf0d August 21, 1959 Hawaii joined our union, becoming the 50th state. Which makes it 50 years we have spent as 50 states, our most stable configuration. Same for our 50 star flag. Arizona joined our union on February 14, 1912 as the 48th state, Alaska on January 3, 1959 as the 49th.
It seems we should be celebrating it a bit more.

fiogf49gjkf0d Same here, sent the idea myself to DrD. Even asking if there were any songs about the vote for statehood, or topical songs about it. Thought he could also do the same for Alaska at the same time, as I did not think of the idea until after Alaska's 50th.
peterpuck9: --- I had requested the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood as a topic for Dr. Demento but did not get a response.

I love Hawaii. It is the only state where you get off the airplane and get lei'd
:-)

fiogf49gjkf0d Just think of this, if Hawaii wasn't a state by the time Obama was born (August 4, 1961), he wouldn't be president today!

fiogf49gjkf0d Actually, Let's Talk Dirty in Hawian might have been better, as at the time 50 plus years ago, the question put to the Hawian voters was to choose between 'become a state' or 'remain a territorry', no choice for independence, as some would have wanted.
Medemia: --- Ah man. It's too late to start a "U.S.F'n.A." push for the DT20. That would have been a good idea.

fiogf49gjkf0d I suppose it could get quite expensive replacing all those obsolete flags every time a new state is added. Twice in '59!
