We used a MIDI interface, made by Passport, that plugged into the Commodore 64. It was spendy but came with the sequencing software. It was State Of The Art in 1985. The MIDI song files were then saved to floppy disk. We did a whole album of instrumental Christmas songs. This song being one of my favorites.

"MIDI" sequenced on a C64?? Or was it synthesized on a SID Chip? I do know that an independently produced incarnation of the SID Player did have a MIDI option, but the extra hardware needed to accomplish it (since there was no MIDI port on the C64) was not easy to find. I've heard of hackers and hobbyists creating their own MIDI interface, but the results have generally been disappointing. The SID chip, on the other hand, was way ahead of its time and (IMHO) much better than the first generation AdLib or Sound Blaster cards on the PC.

Yes Bob, you pass the product placement test. That was indeed the Taco Bell logo.

It might interest you to know that the entire song, except for the lead synthesizer, was MIDI sequenced on a Commodore 64 back in 1985. All the bells are synthesized or samples.

: ) Dave
