During the early 1980s Dr. Demento was on the radio a lot. Everywhere. In the evenings. Lasting into late hours. So I guess I heard a great deal of tunes and novelties. I cannot really pick out any one favorite. So out of a handful, my Top Ten is in no particular order...

10. Existential Blues (Do you know there are two versions? Long & Short)
9. Vampire Beavers (I always liked the chorus at the end, I dunno)
8. They're Coming To Take Me Away (Gotta love the manic laughing)
7. Building My Body (The artist sings it so seriously!)
6. Fish Heads (Chipmunk sounding vocals always grip our attention)
5. Time Warp (Not really "funny" but it sure does move)
4. One Of Those Days (I should have more Weird Al in my Top 10 REALLY)
3. Silicon Valley Guy (For certain)
2. Christmas At Ground Zero (Ah, more Weird Al!)
1. Nuke The Whales (This shouldn't be number one, should it?)

You know, it's the whole "obscurity" thing. That recording is very underrated, I think. If it weren't for the silliness of its message, this thing could have been a rebel anthem of some sort. I wonder what was going through their minds when they put this to vinyl. There's a link I made sure was part of this site:
www.themadmusicarchive.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=7719

I had looked all over the internet for the lyrics and when I couldn't find them, I made damn sure there would be lyrics available somewhere, dammit! The only thing missing now is a webpage about the song to fill in the link that asks, is there a webpage about the song? And I don't know who produced the single. Other than that, we've filled it in quite nicely. For an "obscure" track...

Ah, but did you ever wear fishnet stockings while dancing the Time Warp? Once that riff pierces through the air...it's like madness takes its toll ;)

When I go to the science fiction conventions, The Time Warp is a must at midnight at the dance or dances. Sometimes even written into the DJs contract. So when asked if I ever danced The Time Warp, I get to say that "I have live The Time Warp".

I can't really pick a Top Ten, either...the one I give is more or less a "general" one and I can think of so many more songs that I could slip in the slots. For instance, "Erik the Awful" by Ray Stevens is a great track! Försti fördje finn-je! That always cracks me up!

I just tried to list 10 of my faves and I got a tightening in my chest. I just can't pick only 10.

Time Warp Rocks! It should be played more often on the radio.

We play the Time Warp every New Years Day as soon as it arrives. One of my all-time faves too!
