Willie Tyson's music was, when first played in DC in the 1970's, a joy to behold -- and hear. Willie was among the first of the feminist musicians to make a local and then national name for herself.

There was quite a group of women-minded women musicians who wrote their own material and played their own instruments. Willie was just a bit eccentric, but in the same good way that Meg Christian was/is.

I remember she was hired to play music at Ft. Gordon GA in 1978 for the Federal Women's Program's celebration called "Women's Week." None to shy about her political beliefs, Willie took the stage and proceded to sing her best anti-war song to Major General Hillsman and his wife and the audience of mostly military families. Since I was the person who coordinated this event, I think I was waiting for Willie to be escorted off the post in cuffs; but Gen. Hillsman took it like a trooper. And Willie lived to sing another day. NOTES from AP.

Reviews:
Willie's "Debutante" album is still terrific. It's been almost thirty years since I first heard it. Every song is wonderful. And fun. And upbeat. And meaningful. - Adrienne- ADRIENNE
